Just imagine if you lost someone who was extremely immediate or someone you barely even knew. Afterall, they’re two completely different situations, but both Wes’s encountered one or the other. Many children experience this complication and don’t always turn out to be at their highest quality. Moreover, leaving them with a boundless affect, having they just lost someone remarkable to them. Although this may be true, could it affect them if they weren’t there at all.
Finding Fish, by Antwone Quenton Fisher is an inspiring novel showing how he overcame adversity. In act one of the novel the reader learned some of the challenges he faced during his childhood including, physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. Another obstacle to Antwone’s happiness and success was being a ward of the state and spending several years with the Pickett family before he experienced homelessness. Once he was kicked out of the Picket household, he was placed into a boy’s home until he turned eighteen and then he was on his own. He would then stay at a YMCA until it became dangerous and moved onto the streets.

In The Other Wes Moore, The lives of two young men are examined through three distinct lenses, how the role our environment, social capital (How we get ahead by helping each other) and how our mindset can dictate who we become later on in life. Both of these young men grew up in roughly the same environment, the ghettos of Baltimore, Maryland and the Bronx, New York, respectively.
In “The Soft-hearted Sioux”, a Native American boy goes back home to his tribe after living at a mission school. The Sioux boy no longer connects with the people of the tribe or their culture because of his newfound belief in Christianity. As soon as he arrives, the Sioux boy finds that his father is ill. Because of his conversion to Christianity, the Sioux boy does not believe that the medicine man is healing his father and tries to guide the tribespeople away from their cultural beliefs. When the Sioux boy attempts to speak to his people about Christianity, the medicine man states, “What loyal son is he who, returning to his father’s people, wears a foreigner’s dress” (649)?

The Boat by Alistair MacLeod is about a boy who grew up in a fishing town and wanted to escape it retelling his story. The unmanned narrator starts the story by telling the readers of his first boat ride. We learn from the story that his father is a fisherman and his mother has always known this life of fishing. So the narrators entire life was spend on a boat; from reading thee we will learn that the boat is a reoccurring theme and it is kind of personified. The we learn that the narrator’s father is an avid reader and is always reading.

The main character, John Wade, uses magic to hide his manipulation and deception in order to put on a smiling face on a daily basis. As a result of wanting to carry on his deceit, he ventures into the political world, while putting his wife,Kathy Wade, through misery. Kathy hated the political life style and gatherings, in this degree she was secretly relieved when he was unable to become a U.S. Senator.

It also tells about the lost gothic girl, Anna Cayne, who meets the young high-school aged narrator. Throughout the postcards, a shortwave radio, various CDs, and many other irregular interest.
In the book “Two Kinds” by Amy Tan, it’s about a little girl who is pressured by her mother to become something she doesn’t want to be. Jing- mei , the daughter, is forced to become a prodigy(child actress), by her mother, and she doesn’t want to be one. In the story, Jing- meis’ mother uses allusions such as Shirley Temple to push her into becoming a prodigy. Although at first Jing- mei is excited to become a prodigy, she later realizes its something she just doesn’t enjoy doing. Consequently, the uses of allusion in the story help Jing- mei discover to not be a prodigy and that what her mother wants for her is not always important.

What is happiness? In Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, happiness consists of restricting freedom and only having simple pleasures. By reducing freedom, the people do not need to make decisions that cause anxiety and dissatisfaction. I believe that this is a skewed definition of happiness that takes away from complex nature of humans. Simple pleasures simply do not equal happiness.
Where the Wild Things are by Maurice Sendak is an interesting children’s picture book. The main character is a little boy named Max, who has a wild imagination. He uses all five senses as well as thought and his actions to express his personality as well as how he reacts and interacts with his surroundings. Max’s id, ego and super-ego are greatly shown in this book through the way that the author has portrayed him. Not only is this book a children’s story, but it can also be perceived as a life lesson.
