Finding Fish, by Antwone Quenton Fisher is an inspiring novel showing how he overcame adversity. In act one of the novel the reader learned some of the challenges he faced during his childhood including, physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. Another obstacle to Antwone’s happiness and success was being a ward of the state and spending several years with the Pickett family before he experienced homelessness. Once he was kicked out of the Picket household, he was placed into a boy’s home until he turned eighteen and then he was on his own. He would then stay at a YMCA until it became dangerous and moved onto the streets. Antwone grew up in a hostile environment with the Pickett family. Then when he was kicked out, he went to a boy’s home, then a shelter at a YMCA, and then he became homeless. As a child he would tell people to look out for him in the future that he was going to be successful. Whether that be with art or writing. When he was at the boy’s home, he was continuously worried about the future, knowing when he turned eighteen, he would have a home to back to like many other boys did. I would talk with Antwone and let him discuss his feels about the uncertainty of his future at this point and provide him with information of jobs he could get and safer shelters in the area instead of the YMCA he later went to and then escaped to eventually become homeless. As a social worker on Antwone’s case I would advocate for him and try to help him find his place in the world possible by working with his creative interests. With this goal of being on his own and escaping the foster system and homelessness I would help Antwone measure this goal by establishing a plan of steps of what would need to be completed to break the system and not go back in. These steps may consist of first getting a job to bring in income and then a place to live. Setting these milestones within the overall goal would help Antwone establish himself in the community and be successful. For this particular goal there would be an extremely high level of investment since he does not have anything or anywhere to go. He would be putting in all that he has to get a job and a place to live to ultimate escape the
