The main character of “The Hobbit” is Bilbo Baggins, for he is a hobbit and lives in a hobbit hole. Bilbo is afraid of the “Big People,” for he is half the size as normal humans. Bilbo has no beard, hobbits do not grow beards. He has a round stomach and is always dressed in bright colors, mostly yellow and green. He wears no shoes because his feet naturally grow leathery soles and he grows thick brown hair on the top of his head. Bilbo is a thief and is very sneaky. You wouldn’t even hear him coming behind you if you weren’t looking. Bilbo also has brown fingers that are very clever in certain thievery subjects. Bilbo’s hobbit hole has only one floor, which included all of his furniture: paneled walls, polished chairs, tiled and carpeted floors, many pegs for hats/coats, bedrooms, cellars, pantries, bathrooms, wardrobes, kitchens, and the dining rooms. Bilbo likes to have tea with his many friends at 4p.m. Bilbo also has a habit of smoking a pipe when he wants to. Bilbo likes to cook and serve others; for example, when the dwarves arrived after the quest was just launched. Bilbo then shows he is fair and he is determined. This is shown when he gives the heart of the mountain to Bard and the elves and when he was trying to save the dwarves from the spiders. Another personality that comes from Bilbo is the way he takes things and doesn’t give the items back. One example of this was when Bilbo snagged the invisible ring from Gollum 's lair (the goblins’ tunnels) and never returned it back to Gollum. Bilbo then finds the invisible ring very useful later; for example, when Bilbo escapes from the goblin tunnels and when he is saving the dwarves from the Elves’ lair.
