In the dystopian society that Equality 7-2521 lives in he could be punished for thinking for himself. He wanted to leave the society to find his happiness. His two friends wanted the best for him, and objectivism not being selfish. In the society Equality 7-2521 faced the troubles of not being able to to think for himself and have independence. While he is trying to find his own happiness he meets two people who are just like him.
In the novel, Anthem, Equality 7-2521 invents a new source of light. And after a couple days equality 7-2521 gained the courage to go show the World Council of Scholars what he had made. The motivation he gets to show the World Council of Scholars is he wants everyone else to find their happiness like he did. Equality 7-2521 wanted all his brothers to experience what he experienced with the light. When Equality 7-2521 went to the council of scholars he had no fears that they would reject him. The definition of selfish is “ lacking consideration for others; concerned chiefly with one’s own personal profit or pleasure.” Ayn Rand claims that a selfish person is a person who pursues their goals. In the novel Equality 7-2521 does not want to be a part of the society that he is in so he runs away. After equality ran away the council thought of him as selfish for thinking for himself. But it's not selfish to Ayn Rand, it is a person trying to find their happiness. Ayn Rand believes that the moral goal of someone's life is to achieve happiness and the only way to do that is to be selfish. Ayn Rand put her own philosophy in this book in hope that the world will never get to this point. Ayn Rand showed the horrors of objectivism by making the city Equality 7-2521 how it is. She showed how a society could get if everything was equal. She showed how you shouldn't have everyone as equal for society to be a good
