Jonathan is the main character of the book “The Fighting Ground” by Avi. To provide further information, Jonathan is a thirteen-year-old boy who wishes to fight in the American Revolution, like his father, brother, and cousin. He is brave, naive, a bit of a dimwit at times, and a convincing liar. He is also a bit of a pushover, and seems to be easily frightened. However, some of that has changed by the end of the book.

Jeremy Fink has a big fear of change. This shows that he doesn’t really like to try new things and he is not really a risk taker. Jeremy, a 12 year old, has been living without his father for five years now and that has been tough on him. That is one of the reasons he doesn’t like change, because the biggest change he can remember is living without his father. Another example is Jeremy’s food choice.
Books are the ideal way to introduce a reader to the many morals of the human society. In the novel Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card, Ender, is drafted by the international fleet to lead multiple fleets of ships in combat against an alien species, but he does not realize that he was drafted for that purpose. Ender is sent to Battle School, where he becomes a true archetypal leader, and he gains many valuable friends that help him along the way. In the book East of Eden, a young girl, Abra Bacon begins as the average girl for the time, a symbol of femininity and pureness in her family. However, as time went on she began to internally rebel, realizing that she didn’t have to conform to that standard and that she could be herself. In heart she is an magnificently kind and beautiful young women on the inside and out. In the book it is written that “It was only after Aron went away to college that abra really gotta know his family.”(ch. 44), to me this shows that she was being confined by her childhood wants and knowledge even though she had gained greater knowledge of the world and of herself since then.

In the Lake of The Woods, a mystery war novel written by Tim O’Brien, whose major theme is that not every problem has a solution, but may present a different outlook on the problem and aspects surrounding it. The main character, John Wade, uses magic to hide his manipulation and deception in order to put on a smiling face on a daily basis. As a result of wanting to carry on his deceit, he ventures into the political world, while putting his wife,Kathy Wade, through misery. Kathy hated the political life style and gatherings, in this degree she was secretly relieved when he was unable to become a U.S. Senator.

Dally, a record with the police a mile long and Johnny, no record with the police at all, you would think they would be very different but that are also very alike. Johnny and Dally are both the same in a way for example, they both have abusive and neglectful parents. “His father was always beating him up, and his mother ignored him, and then you could hear her yelling at him clear down at our house”(12). Johnny’s dad abuses him and his mom ignores him.

Literature 1 Michael Arroyo August 28, 2015 4th Period “As Simple As Snow” by Gregory Galloway “As Simple as Snow” is a mystery novel made in 2005 that may confuse people’s minds with all the art, magic, codes, and love while reading. As a teen age boy who wants to find the secrets his girlfriend who left behind all these mysteries after her odd disappearance. It also tells about the lost gothic girl, Anna Cayne, who meets the young high-school aged narrator. Throughout the postcards, a shortwave radio, various CDs, and many other irregular interest.
Everyday, she excels in her job of caring for the children and making a difference in the community. Due to her kindness she would always bring thoughtful gifts for the children. She doesn 't have to do the classes with the children everyday but she continues to do it like Sylvia says “school supposed to let out in the summer I heard, but she dont never let up” (Bambara 96). The lessons learned while earning her degree has lead her to becoming a positive role model in the children 's lives; nonetheless, teaching them lessons that may never learn from others. She shows her passion in the story by saying “she said, it was only her right that she take responsibility for the young ones’ education.
According to Victor and Edith Turner, a liminoid pilgrimage is a “[rite] of transition marked by three phases: separation, limen or margin, and aggregation” (p. 2). In Stephen Sondheim's Into The Woods, all of the characters go to the woods and take part in those same three phases outlined by the Turners. Forgiveness is the action or process of forgiving or being forgiven. (Hawkins, 1994, P. 206) My personal understanding of the parable ‘The Prodigal Son” is that it portrays the importance of reasoning and forgiveness. The main characters in the parable are two sons and a betrayed father. The father remains constant throughout the parable, although he has being betrayed by his younger son.
