The Inspiring Heroic, Louie Zamperini Louis was a mischievous child until war hit him. In his childhood Louis had put a bad impression on him, as he was doing drugs, smoking and being disrespectful. As a young child he was a troublemaker who was later well known for a track star in High School. He was severely beaten many times in camps as he was in war. He was also an olympic star who met Adolf Hitler.

Throughout the story Zora is reluctant to tell her readers that she is neither ashamed nor does she feel "tragically colored" (Hurston pg.1060), even when Zora was "thrown against a sharp white background" (Hurston pg.1061) during her time spent at Jacksonville, nor was she filled with anger or sorrow for herself, she had never felt the pressure of discrimination to climb back to a time when her ancestors would have been angry towards a white man. However, during a night spent at a jazz restaurant accompanied by her a white friend, Zora would come to find out just how different she was; and as the night lingered on a group of jazz musicians began to play which in turn woke a "primitive fury"(Hurston pg.1061) within Zora. From there Zora takes the readers on an emotional turbulence through the jungle which was led by the rhythm of the jazz musicians. Group Process learned from reading The Schopenhauer Cure Groups: A Fragile Ecosystem In order to interpret skills presented in The Schopenhauer Cure, it is important to understand the various techniques and speaking methods of protagonist Julius Hertzfeld. It appears Julius views the group as an ecosystem, an organized structure consisting of parts, similar to the systems of the human body. The main conflict explored within this book is the introduction of Philip into the delicate structure of a fully functioning mature group in the end-middle phase transforming to ending phase. This thought process is comparable to the human body being introduced to bacteria and subsequent antibiotic.
For a time, the two were close friends and partners. They even tried to develop a play together, called Mule Bone: A Comedy of Negro Life. It didn't work out that well in the end, though. So why was Zora so important to the Harlem Renaissance? Well, her writing provided a desperately needed feminine and feminist voice in a movement that was dominated by men.
Zora starts off by telling the story of her early life. She doesn’t just narrate the story, she more so reflects on her childhood and in a way mediates her race in the story. In the story, she refers to herself as colored. This shows her recognition of self and acceptance of her racial identity. Zora writes that she grew up in Eatonville Florida which was an all-black community.
Each of the National Honor Society’s four pillars, character, scholarship, leadership, and service, are a part of what the students of NHS embody in who they are and how they act. Character is the sum of who a person is and how they act, be it good or bad. Attaining good character is very important because one’s character will seep out into all aspect of one’s life and permeate into the decisions they make. Scholarship represents the importance of education and learning. Through good grades, high test scores, and academic excellence one develops a love for lifelong learning.
In the short story “A Worn Path” author Eudora Welty creates a character who seems to be suffering from hallucinations and must embark on a long and challenging journey to obtain one thing, medicine. The story takes place in late December as she goes through nature to get into town and meets some interesting people along the way. The main character is an african american who goes by the name of Phoenix Jackson and while her age is never revealed we can assume she is quite old. If I had to characterize Phoneix i would say that she is disrespected. When Phoneix arrived to the medical center she was treated rather poorly by the attendant who said “ A charity case, I suppose,” and to “ Speak up, Grandma”,”.
Many posses the commitment to the qualities of scholarship, leadership, service, and character, but how one uses them shows the core of their disposition. For each of these qualities, there are many traits, useful in a leader, and not. Since it is only my second year as a student at Carlsbad High School, there has not been much time of my being distracted from my school work as I try to be as diligent of a student as possible. However, from time to time, I take a break and do things for the community instead. The students that make up the National Honor Society are extremely dedicated in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character, and I would be very grateful to be a part of the standards.
In the book “Two Kinds” by Amy Tan, it’s about a little girl who is pressured by her mother to become something she doesn’t want to be. Jing- mei , the daughter, is forced to become a prodigy(child actress), by her mother, and she doesn’t want to be one. In the story, Jing- meis’ mother uses allusions such as Shirley Temple to push her into becoming a prodigy. Although at first Jing- mei is excited to become a prodigy, she later realizes its something she just doesn’t enjoy doing. Consequently, the uses of allusion in the story help Jing- mei discover to not be a prodigy and that what her mother wants for her is not always important.
In the novel, Ordinary People by Judith Guest, a family goes through the trials of trying to find normalcy after a tragedy strikes. Throughout the story you meet the Jarret family and watch as they progress through the everyday life and the challenges that come with it. Conrad Jarret is an ordinary 17-year-old boy living in Lake Forest, Illinois. Conrad is living with the burden of thinking he is at fault for his brother’s death and blaming himself for the family quandary’s. Conrad, by far, is the most interesting character for the reason that he unquestionably struggles to try to find what he defines as a “normal” life.
“Put yourself in their shoes” is a phrase commonly used, but what does it mean? It encompasses the capacity to which one can empathise with another’s situation or emotional state. Empathy can be defined as the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. There are many contributing factors that influence an individual’s capability to feel empathy. In addition, this ability is developed, refined, and influenced throughout the lifespan.
Over the course of my academic career, I have developed several positive traits that make make me a qualified candidate for National Junior Honors Society. My experience from being in a variety of school clubs and leadership positions has equipped me with the necessary character traits for an aspiring National Junior Honors Society member. I pride myself on being reliable, ambitious, and versatile. I have gained most of these traits through being in positions of responsibility.
To be trapped in one's own mind may be the worst prison imaginable. In Charlotte Perkins Gilman's "The Yellow Wallpaper", the narrator of the story is constantly at battle with many different forces, such as John, her husband, the yellow wallpaper that covers the walls of her room, and ultimately herself. Throughout the story the narrator further detaches herself from her life and becomes fixated on the yellow wallpaper that surrounds her in her temporary home, slowly driving her mad. The narrator of "The Yellow Wallpaper" is a major and dynamic character as she is the main character of the story, and throughout the story her personality and ways of thinking change drastically.
Stephanie Plum, Morelli, and Ranger are three main characters in the book, One for the Money, by Janet Evanovich. Stephanie is a young woman struggling to get by in the city of Trenton, New Jersey. After losing her job, she goes against her family’s request and gets the dangerous job of a bounty hunter. She gets assigned Joe Morelli, who was accused of murder and who happened to be a childhood enemy. Stephanie is very inexperienced and receives help from a professional bounty hunter, Ranger.
My Identity Defined My Identity is a collaboration of the other people who have had an impact on me, as well as the experiences I have undergone and endured so far in my life.. My heritage and ethnicity influences me to an extent, but it does not necessarily define me. I consider my identity to be how I see myself and what strengths I posses. I have produced the identity I hold, and outside forces have only positively influence me and helped to better myself as a person.
