In the novel Scarlet, Marissa Meyer uses the main character Scarlet to exhibit a similar drive within the story of searching for someone who the character felt was the only one that truly understood and loved her. The main character in this story, Scarlet, is a key character in progressing the plot forward. At the start of the plot Scarlet is shown as a quick tempered and angry character that is annoyed at the Police for ending their search of looking for her grandmother. By means of the character arc, this was significant in her development. Once it had happened, it showed rapid relationship status growth between them, which is huge in her becoming more open to others besides her grandmother. While the Scarlets' beliefs towards getting her grandma were getting more achievable and the idea of being with Wolf, her character development seemed to be looking similar to a perfect fairy tale for her. But everything she had felt leading up to reaching the base was broken to pieces when she was imprisoned there by Lunars instead. She ended up discovering that the whole time Wolf was also a bioengineered Lunar that his role in the real gang, not the “wolves” was to bring Scarlet to use as leverage on her grandmother for information. Knowing that she had been completely fooled by Wolf, she felt distraught and betrayed, thinking to herself “If she ever saw him again she would scratch his eyes out. She would throttle him until his lips turned blue. She would –”(Meyer 295). These strong feelings toward Wolf represent how she hates herself for beginning to trust him at all, since now she has no clue what her life could
