Film is defined through various aspects and one of the most important of those is its characters. Having strong memorable characters is what the viewers will remember most about the film and is what drives them to come back for more. One example of this would be T. R. Devlin from the film Notorious. He is a character who may not seem like much at first, but by the end is the most memorable of the film.

In film, the characters that are most loved by the viewers are the ones that change throughout the film. The main protagonist can start off bad and redeem themselves at the end or he/she can be in a good place and go through a downward spiral throughout the film. Devlin's character change throughout the film is one of the reasons why the viewer will be intrigued by him at the end. Devlin starts of as a man just doing his job, but then ends up falling in love with Alicia, the love interest of the film. Devlin is a perfect representation of this because at the end of Notorious his will power is what allows him to save Alicia from the Germans. In this scene he is forced to carry her when she can barley stand while confronting the films antagonist Sebastian. His determination to save his loved one is what allows him to talk his way past Sebastian and carry her to the car. Another example of this is when he takes the risk of making out with Alicia in front of Sebastian in order to avoid suspicion. The fact that he is putting himself and Alicia at risk for the greater good shows that he is utilizing the characters power of heroism through will power to an extent that the viewer will
