If unfamiliar with the series, in short, the show is about a Congressman from South Carolina named Frank Underwood. While watching the show you quickly begin to notice he is a very power-hungry and ego-driven man. He is determined to to get what he wants no matter what. Just with this character explanation, I quickly noticed a resemblance to Richard III. In Shakespeare’s Richard III, Richard was a man who felt cursed by the world and wanted to gain a position of power to better himself, and would do anything to get it. The way I see it, Frank shares many similar characteristics to Richard. In class we discussed the opening scene for Richard III.
