Nicholas Confessore, the author of ”How School Lunch Became the Latest Political Battleground”, displays the challenges of transitioning from the old rules to the new rules as part of Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” campaign. It is clear to all parties that childhood obesity is rising at a dangerous rate in America and school lunches are believed to be the necessary first change. Unfortunately, the multiple different parties that are involved in making the changes do not see eye-to-eye. The School Nutrition Association is one of the groups pushing back against the new government policies. Since the SNA is comprised mostly of lunch ladies, they believe the current meals are the healthiest meal most students receive in a given day.

As I walked into the cafeteria, I caught a whiff of the food being prepared in the cafeteria and thought to myself, “Why can’t we go off-campus to get lunch?” While SLA, the lunch program at Catholic High, provides the school lunches, there could be an alternative solution to this. Unfortunately, students are detained at school during lunch hours and are not able to leave campus during lunch forcing them to be served by SLA or bring their own lunch. If Catholic High School were to introduce an open-campus lunch, students and faculty would benefit greatly. While SLA does provide the lunch at CHS, they do not live up to their standard of “high quality, nutritious, and cost efficient”.
I thought Meals on Wheels of America was just a simple organization covering the surrounding counties that provided a meal a day to senior citizens who had trouble providing a meal for themselves. However, I have learned that Meals on Wheels of America was established in 1954 and is the oldest and largest national organization representing community based senior nutrition programs and that it has 5,000 member programs, in which they provide over 1 million meals to seniors every day, which are served at senior centers as well as delivering meals directly to the homes of seniors whose mobility is limited. After reading chapter 6 and learning about outpatient and inpatient services, I have realized in my experience as a volunteer at a local
Effective immediately, during a meal service observation, when the provider serves the children two years of age and older whole or reduced-fat (2%) milk, the observed meal will be disallowed. Prior meals not observed on the same day of the visit will not be disallowed. The field representative must also cite this non-compliance as a finding and require corrective action. A follow up visit will be conduct to ensure providers are following CACFP guidance.
I thought that this was a bit odd, but not many people around seemed bothered by it. It seemed like there may have been a dispute between the two, but it was quickly resolved and one of the individuals came into the free lunch program soon after the police left to get a meal. I thought that the free lunch program was serving a pretty diverse group of people. There were quite a few older adults, middle aged, and even some early twenties to teenagers. However, the majority of the people there were all male.

Further more, the schools loss of profit could be devastating to the schools meal budget if no one is eating the foods that they are paying out more money than what they are making. If the school isn't making any profit off of the food they are selling in the cafeteria, won't make the cut to continue severing the food to the children that are still eating it; then even more children and staff will not get to eat until they get home if they even can
Proposing a Solution: Increase In School Lunch Debt After inflation has increased, several individuals are not able to eachfford essential needs. This is also a current issue in our local school districts along with numerous households. Preamble: When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for students to choose what and where they prefer to eat at school during lunchtime. It is required that they must explain why and for what reasons they want an open campus. They must write a Declaration of Independence due to the fact that they prefer to risk their health when having an open campus for lunch. To begin with, the taste alone of school lunches is beyond unsatisfactory. The meals provided by public schools are not appetizing. There exists a tangible disconnect between the enticing, nutritious meals advertised on the school board’s menus and what the students actually receive—pathetic portions and lukewarm meals slapped onto a tray. Children’s complaints about school lunches are often seen as trite. However, while common, they are not any less accurate.
