Soul singer Charles Bradley dies from cancer Charles Bradley, the soul singer who inspired people with his voice and his genuine love for humanity, died on Saturday, September 23, 2017. Bradley suffered from stomach and liver cancer. Who was Charles Bradley? Charles Bradley was a soul singer who came to fame late in life. Known as the “Screaming Eagle of Soul,” he released his first album called No Time for Dreaming, when he was 62 years old. Fame quickly found him and he released his second album Victim of Love in 2013, and his final third album Changes in 2016. Soul of America In 2012 a documentary about Bradley’s life was released called Soul of America. Bradley was raised in Florida by his grandmother until the age of eight, and moved to New York City with his mother after that. In 1962 his sister took him to see James Brown perform and Bradley secretly started practicing his impersonation of him. By 14 Bradley had run away from home. Eventually Bradley was able to train and get work as a chef. One day he was asked if he could sing because he looked like James Brown, and Bradley said that he could.
