Ensuring safety of the patient is the responsibility of everyone working in a health care setting. Everyone must work together to provide quality patient care and promote safe environment. Patient safety also is one of the most important responsibilities of a nurse. Nurses pledge to provide the best quality of care for their patients and must prevent any harmful incident from occurring. I had never heard of Charles Cullen before, but watching the documentary about him was an eye-opening experience for me. It is very distressing to know that many innocent lives were taken because of the action of one person who was supposed to take care of patients. I think the recommendations from Cullen’s previous employers contributed in him being called a good nurse. Some of the hospitals who had hired him looked up on his references from the previous jobs. They gave good positive reviews of him even though he was fired from those hospitals. Previous hospitals that Cullen had worked with did not report anything against him because of their fear of being sued.
