Charles Dickens, who is a great writer, was born on February 7th, 1812, in Portsmouth, England, United Kingdom. “Charles Dickens was born to John Huffman Dickens, and Elizabeth Barrow in a small but pleasant newly built terraced house in Portsea, a suburban outgrowth of a wildly prosperous wartime Portsmouth that was bursting at the seams”(Callow 3). John Huffman Dickens was a clerk who dreamed of making lots of money; Elizabeth Barrow was dreamed of being a teacher and a school director. Charles Dickens was married to Catherine Dickens (but later separated) and had 10 children. Hence Charles Dickens family heritage eventually led him to become a great writer.

Charles Dickens was born as the second of eight children, while his family was having financial trouble. Charles Dickens went to Wellington School Academy until he was twelve. On February 23th, 1824, Dickens’ father was sent to jail for not being able to repay his debt. During this time period, Dickens was pulled out of school and sent to work at Warren’s Blacking Factory.
