Few cults have had as large of an effect on society as Charles Manson and his family of followers did throughout the 60s. Although he was never the one killing the victims, Manson was the one behind every murder. Manson directed his family (followers) to murder famous individuals in Hollywood, in hopes to blame the massacres on the black community and start a race war, after a twisted view of “Helter Skelter”, by the Beatles (Rogers, 2017). Manson and his followers caused heartache and panic that is still felt today.

His followers that were responsible for killing the victims were convicted, and he himself was convicted for murder and conspiracy for the Tate- LaBianca murders along with the killings of musician, Gary Hinman, and stuntman, Donald “Shorty” Shea (Seidel, 2017).
Many articles have been published, and analyzed, debating on what pushed Manson to murder. It is a plausible belief that an egocentric mindset and lifestyle, with his followers calling him “Jesus”, the public calling him “the Devil”, and thinking of himself as “the Messiah”, caused him to commit horrible murderous crimes. Many believe that this kind of attention started his “prophecies” of the world coming to an end, through race war, which he tried to begin through these murderous crimes.
Nearly half a century after convicted, Charles Manson died on November 19, 2017, at Kern County Hospital in California, at 83 years of age from heart failure (Heyman, 2017). Manson has left a lasting impression, and left a legacy of evil, hate and murder (Rogers, 2017).
