Charles Milles Maddox was born on November 12, 1934 in Cincinnati, Ohio. “He was born to a 15 year old girl, Kathleen Maddox, who wanted to party rather than be a mother.
His mother was sixteen when he was born and he never met his father. He never stayed in one place too long after his mother was arrested for an armed robbery. He lived with relatives, in foster homes, and eventually in reformatories and prisons throughout his youth. Charles Manson then started committing federal crimes. Because of this his sentences were longer than local or state sentences for offenses.
Manson was born to the low of the low, a drunkard of a sixteen-year old prostitute named Kathleen Maddox who would soon marry Charles’ father William Manson. But would soon divorce him and lead to the abandonment of the young Charles Manson at a boarding school for children. Where he would soon be rejected the ability to live with his mom which led him to living on the streets. Living on the streets led Charles into petty crime to make a living and survive. This led Charles into the prison very early in his teenage years.
His father was busy with his bar business and his mother was very sick so he often was left alone to do what he wanted. This led him to get into so much trouble including skipping school, hanging around on the waterfront, and spending too much time in his father’s bar. He stole from the cash register, drank left over beer, and chewed tobacco at the age of six (Encyclopedia.com) As a result, he was sent to St. Mary’s Industrial School for boy at the age of seven. He spent a month there on two separate occasions.
