“Mrs Whatsit loves me; that’s what she told me, that she loves me,” suddenly she knew. She knew! Love. That was what she had that IT did not have.” (L’engle 100). In this part of the book Meg has just realized the only way to defeat IT is with love. This is also a great way to deliver a theme of the book, which is exactly what L’engle did. She made the weakness of IT love so that she could show her readers that love is a very powerful force that can take down any hate or darkness. In the movie Meg uses love to defeat IT but without knowing Meg’s thoughts, we can’t understand that she is thinking about love and realizing that love is stronger than hate. The theme that love is more powerful than darkness is delivered in the movie, but to find it you have to look deep and search for it. Meg’s actions show the theme but by knowing her thoughts we can figure out the theme easier than by just watching Meg’s
