Chasing You Act 3

Chasing you by Morgan Wallen fits act 3 scene 3 the best because it conveys a sense of regret, from a loss that haunts him, just like Romeo does in the play. In act 3 scene 3 Friar Lawrence informs Romeo that Prince is going to banish Romeo from Verona rather than killing him as punishment for killing Tybalt. “Thy fault our law calls death; but the kind prince, Taking thy part, hath rush'd aside the law, And turn'd that black word death to banishment: This is dear mercy, and thou seest it not.” (3.3 25-27) Romeo compares this banishment to death because he will no longer be able to see Juliet.“Ha, banishment? Even when he has found someone new he says that he is still “chasing you”, meaning that no one can ever replace the one he truly loves. “Hell, I'm laying every night holding someone new. Still chasing you, still chasing you” (Wallen). Wallen says that even when he thinks he found another girl to replace his one and only love, he would rather give that person up if he had the choice to go back to his true love. Even though Romeo is much more extreme in his conviction (he would rather die than be away from Juliet) than Wallen is, they are both willing to sacrifice for true love. This song is the best fir for this act/scene because both Wallen and Romeo endure a lesser existence without their significant other actively in their
