Alzheimer’s disease, the most common type of dementia, results in damage to the brain. Alzheimer’s disease affects over five million people and is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. A brain of a person with Alzheimer’s disease will have fewer neural cells and connections between those cells than a person without Alzheimer’s will, resulting in decreased memory and a decline in cognitive abilities.
