Cherry is a redhead teenage girl. Her real name is Sherri but they call her Cherry because of her red hair. She is cute, rich, and stands up for what she believes in She has green eyes and long red hair. She is constantly dressed sharp and is attractive. She is a part of the Socials gang, which is also known as the Socs.

She identifies the Socs as “sophisticated cool to the point of not feeling anything. Nothing is real them us” (page 38). Socs are the rich kids they live on the West side and they aren’t friends with the greasers or they don't talk to them because they are middle-class people. The Greasers believed that the Socs had it superior to them, yet they discover that the Socs are cool to the point of not feeling anything. However Cherry isn't like most Socs, she’s nicer, and isn’t as rough. When Cherry, Ponyboy, Johnny and Marcia were walking after the movies, Bob and Randy pulled up in a blue Mustang, the greaser boys and the Socs were going to get into a fight but Cherry stopped it she said, “I can’t stand fights… I can’t stand them…” (page 45). Socs always like to gang up on the greaser and beat them up like they once did to Johnny and it made him scared of them. Nevertheless Cherry cares about her reputation a lot. She told Ponyboy “if I see you in the halls at school or someplace else and I don't say hi, well, it's not personal or anything” (page 45). She doesn’t want people to see a soc talking to greaser because if someone sees her it’s going to lower her reputation and she doesn’t want that. She's also more understanding and caring than the other Socs because when Johnny killed Bob she didn’t hate Johnny or want to get revenge. She helped them instead, she told the police that Johnny and Ponyboy only did what they did for self-defence because the Socs were drunk and they weren’t aware of what they were
