The child labor was a huge problem in the United State. They would children doing dangerous jobs, some children would even die from doing these chores. The 1890s there were about 1 million 10 - 15 years olds who worked, that number had doubled by 1910. Industries even hired 5 and 6 year olds to work 18 hours a day. Along with this there were health conditions like miners inhaling stuff from the mines, glassworker exposed to intense heat and clam breakers would have cut on their hands from the tough shells.

This was at a time when there were no laws for child labor. Child labor was treacherous and some important people stepped in to stop it. These working conditions were hazardous and the kids were not safe. Child labor affects the child’s mental and physical health and it keeps children from struggling in school.(Doc. 7) Also, the reason why there were so many accidents in factories is because there were no safety regulations and requirements for uniforms.(Doc. 2)
After people noticed the treacherous working conditions for kids in the U.S. in the late 1800s and early 1900s, many individuals took action to address this dreadful problem. During this time, the working conditions were dreadful. For example, Syble Filter had his finger cut off at the age of 17 when a machine started unexpectedly (Doc. 3). Another example of these terrible conditions is when very young children (boys especially) got caught in the machine or fell into a moving machine (Doc.2).

However, the risks of involving child labor greatly outweighed the positives; child labor was inhumane, cruel, and caused physical deformities among children. Children typically worked in coal mines, mills, and factories which contained many life-threatening hazards.
The Industrial Revolution created factories for businesses to grow and produce consumer goods. The factories hired many child workers and had them work in dangerous working conditions. Many people, usually inspectors and reporters, had noticed the troubled and hazardous state that many small children were working in. They’ve contributed to the recognition of the dangerous working conditions to the Parliament. This later resulted in the Parliament granting factory workers, the Factory Acts, and the School Sites Acts.
During the Progressive time, the main goal was to expand the government to a social setting instead of a political environment. African Americans were considered inferior to the white culture. Child labor was seen in all factories, they would work in the cruelest conditions for little to no pay. During this time, it was Congress’ decision whether or not child labor was legal or not. In present day, African American have a lot more freedom than written in history.
When the immigrants came to the United States they was offered jobs in factories and on farms. Children (under 13) was expected to work in the factories just like the adults,they was expected to work 12 hour shifts, they had no idea what was going on, they didn't understand what breaks ment, they didn't understand why they was made to work like they was having too, this is child labor it was illegal in the late 1800s and early 1900s. They were filthy, dusty, and cramped, making them an unsuitable environment for children to spend so much time in every day. When forced to work in these factories, children faced numerous health issues, and some even died. Child labor began to decline as the labor and reform movements grew and labor standards in general improved, giving working people and other social reformers more political clout to demand legislation regulating child labor.
Child labor during the 18th and 19th century did not only rapidly develop an industrial revolution, but it also created a situation of difficulty and abuse by depriving children of edjucation, good physical health, and the proper emotional wellness and stability. In the late 1700 's and early 1800 's, power-driven machines replaced hand labor for making most manufactured items. Many of America 's factories needed a numerous amount of workers for a cheap salary. Because of this, the amount of child laborers have been growing rapidly over the early 1800s.
If they worked for around a 12 hour day, then they would make about $48 which is cruel for that amount of time. The working conditions in general were unruly for the children who had to undergo them. No matter what the age, quality, job, or amount they did, their pay was less than adults who worked the same jobs as them. Children were forced to work in humid areas which led to sickness and unhealthy conditions. Children were forced to work in horrible conditions for very little money.

Child labor during the Industrial Revolution was an essential part in driving economic growth and technological advancement, as young workers could work long hours with little pay, in exchange for their childhood and lack of education. Without these child laborers, the Industrial Revolution would have either taken significantly longer if done by adults, or might not have been a success at all. The Industrial Revolution was a period that began in 1760 and continued through 1840.
