My first solution to help build up your child’s esteem is by giving them a sense of encouragement, support and reward. Show your child that you love her by spending time with him or her, listening to their point of view, and being willing to help them achieve their goals. Small things like posting a good report card on the refrigerator or acknowledging when they remember to take out the trash can help build their feelings of self-worth. Encourage and praise him or her, not only for achieving a goal but also for his or her efforts, and for every increment of change and improvement (Caring for Your School-Age Child: Ages 5 to 12, 2015).
My second solution for children who are struggling academically is sports. Sport’s is an activity they can enjoy and take their mind off stressful things at home. Sports activities provide many positive opportunities for children such as interacting with others and being physically healthy. A child can also develop discipline as he strives to learn at a sport. Therapy is the first form of treatment for depression. Kids, like adults can benefit from therapy. Many single parent kids need help dealing with school, such as homework, bullying, or peer pressure. Others need help to discuss their feelings about family issues, particularly if there's a major transition, such as a divorce, move, or an absence of a parent. “As a parent you should talk to your child about his feelings and the things that are happening at home and at school that might be bothering him or her. Tell your child's doctor. Some medical problems can cause depression.
