Prudence, justice, temperance, and fortitude are the main virtues that keep most of humanity sane. Prudence refers to using sound judgement when making decisions in life, and social media is an integral part of our lives, providing us with numerous platforms for connecting and engaging with others. However, many people separate their online and offline lives and end up doing horrible things to others online. Your life is fundamentally the same, except it's on a device and with a silly, cute nickname you gave yourself rather than your real name. What we do online follows us into reality. We never know where we will end up, so prudence will guide us to make sound decisions. As the saying goes, what goes around comes around. For example, the boy who died as a result of cyberbullying is a clear representation of how our words cut deeper than they actually seem. The internet is a strange place filled with a lot of unknown people, but we just have to stay in control of our emotions and not get caught up in the drama of it all. We don’t know what goes on in other people’s lives, but the least we could do is be mindful of the kind of environment we engage in or with.
