Although Cherie’s volatile relationship has not erupted into physical violence, Tyrone’s threatening behavior could easily escalate from controlling and intimidating behavior to outright domestic violence, which adds another crisis component to this case. As previously mentioned, Cherie revealed that Tyrone belittles and controls her. She also said Tyrone acts excessively jealous, limits her telephone usage and access to money and credit cards. I agree with the author 's assertion that violence and crime is connected to mainly family and education. Many families, particularly low income families, need to work in order to feed their family, as a result, they leave their child home alone, or pick them up late from school. Ultimately, the child will feel neglected, and the relationship they have with their parents will fade away. Home. A place where someone can feel safe, a place where someone will be able to unwind, relax, and relish the rest of their day. On the other hand, home is a place where someone dreads to go, a place where they’re petrified of what their significant other or their family member will do to them next. Routinely, they’re scared to feel the stinging sensation on their cheek, or scared to hear the harsh words spit out of someone’s mouth, or even be forced to do something that they don’t want to do. There are many different reasons why a child would be in foster care and violence may be one of them. Violence in the home leads to multiple problems; inability to sleep, regress developmentally, irritability, fearfulness, aggressiveness, withdrawn, and even over attachment.
I think that exposure to intimate partner violence can be a form of abuse. This exposure can be mentally and emotionally scarring to children of all ages. Obviously some events are more tragic than others, but almost all children could suffer from traumatic events related to IPV. As the video “The Children Next Door” mentioned, 5 million children experience childhood domestic violence every year. The children in this from suffered from mood swings, and anxiety that their dad might come back for their mom.
