INTRODUCTION
1.0 Background of the study
Nowadays, the amount of obesity is three times more than in 1970. The children who gets the obesity refers to an extra fat in the persons body that makes it more easier to get a chronic disease such as hypertension, diabetes, heart attack and much more which can affect their health. It is easy to recognize the disease but not so much on the treatment.
“The prevalence of overweight and obesity increased steadily year by year from 1999 to 2014. For overweight, it went up from 28.8% in 1999 to 33.4%, and for the least severe type of obesity, from 14.6% to 17.4%. A person has traditionally been considered to be obese if they are more than 20% over the ideal weight. That ideal weight must take into account the person’s height, age, sex, and build. (MedicalNet.com, 2016)
1.5.2 Childhood Obesity
Is a condition of extreme overweight in children and adolescents. Being overweight, consisting mainly of body fat, can lead to health problems, such as cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes, sometimes already at an early age. Children may also develop psychological problems, like depression and anxiety, which further reduce their quality of life. Obesity has significant economic consequences, including high health care causes for both individual and the society. It is important to understand the causes of weight gain, and to learn how to best prevent and treat it. (Eufic.org, 2017)
1.6 Conclusion
In short, the purpose of the study is to find out the causes and effects of Childhood Obesity among the children. This research aims to give a knock to parents, government, school and children itself. The literature of Childhood Obesity will be continued in Chapter
