Alejandro C.: A Case in Childhood PTSD Study Identifying Information Alejandro is a 30 month (2 ½-year-old) male of Hispanic descent. Currently, he is a ward of the Los Angeles County’s foster care program (DCFS).
Historic trauma stems from relocation, disease, residential schools, the Indian Act, and racial policies meant to assimilate and eradicate Aboriginal people (First Nations Health Council, 2011). Contact between Aboriginal Peoples and non-Aboriginals facilitated the spread of epidemic diseases which lead to the Aboriginal population collapse (First Nations Health Council, 2011). Daschuk, Hackett and MacNeil (2006) note that different severities of diseases experienced by First Nations were directly related to the new realities of the First Nations peoples as they struggled to adapt to the world of the colonisers including economic dislocation, political changes, and changes from traditional diets all created the perfect environment for breading diseases. The government and churches actively colonized and controlled Aboriginal peoples by eroding all Aboriginal systems including “spirituality, political authority, education, health care systems, land and resource access, and cultural practices” (First Nations Health Council, 2011, p. 13). It is important to recognize that colonial structures have purposely sought to “eliminate Indigenous sovereignty, Indigenous governments and Indigenous constitutional orders” (Ladner, 2009, p. 90).
In the video "How Childhood Trauma Affects Health Across a Lifetime," Nadine Burke Harris explains the effect of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) on people's physical and mental health later in life. ACEs are defined as "potentially traumatic events that occur in childhood" and might include abuse, neglect, and dysfunction in the home. Burke Harris says that ACEs can have a major and long-lasting effect on a person's health, raising their risk for a variety of detrimental consequences like substance misuse, heart disease, and depression. Burke Harris raises several important observations, one of which is the prevalence of ACEs, with around two thirds of Americans reporting having had an ACE.

The rising deaths and DCFS cases is a testament to the disservice our nation is doing to neglected and abused youths. Once kids are placed in the foster care system, they are often moved from one placement to another which may negatively impact all aspects of their lives that are critical to success in later life such as school, social relationships, and environmental/community influences. This constant separation and loss may lead youths to feel hopeless, and resent social interactions as they feel that social relationships are extremely fragile. This affects group treatment as individuals may drop-out of treatment due to a new placement, or decline to actively participate as they feel hopeless and feels distrustful of everything around them. When children and youths cannot trust their caregivers for reassurance, they have no where to turn but the public.
Step four: complete assessment/fill out structured decision making/ICWA forms and justify your answers. 1. Throughout the film, it was unclear what nationality the family was other than Caucasian. There were no clear times that the children were given special treatment or were denied treatment due to their ethnicity. The only time there was a clear racial division was due to Gracie’s relationship with Tommy who was a person of colour. When Gracie met his family, there was somewhat of a hesitation due to the racial separation, this could have stemmed from the socioeconomic division between her family compared to his.
According to the reading in the article (Butler, ) agencies and staff should have awareness of Trauma informed Care. Services shall be provided in Implementing this approach () by incorporating this approach when providing services to an individual. For therapy therapies outcome it is important to implement the five principles of this approach when providing services. Screening and assessment needs to be performing by the Trauma Informed principle in order to assist a person and not to re traumatized them again.
A traumatic family event. Distinctly opposite ways of dealing with it between husband and wife. Instead of joyfully celebrating the safe return of their kidnapped daughter, Tom and Marianne are struggling to understand why they 've landed on polar opposites of this parenting issue. Accepting her husband 's approach would require Marianne to disown a beloved family member. That can 't be God 's will.
In a hollow smug hallway, Harper’s life changed in those two horrific minutes. She used all her force and power to escape, but he had a stronger grip. She yells, “STO…” but doesn’t get the chance to complete the word with her body in shock and pain till she passes out. She tried to comprehend what happened and why he attacked her, till the nurse comes back after getting the whole story to tell her she should keep this attack quiet. Harper was an enlisted member in the military and is one in a million of service members who get sexually assaulted and harassed in the military.
After much consideration, I finally decided on what to write about for my final paper. In the particular article we read by Marc Peyser and Anne Underwood called, Shyness, Sadness, Curiosity, and Joy. Is it Nature or Nurture? They talked about a theory that really caught my eye.
This is why I plan on becoming a Child Therapist. There are many children that have nobody to talk to or fall back on for support. I know that with the Lord on my side I can accomplish anything and I will graduate from college and become the change this world needs. Blum’s account of racism was devised as a means of preventing the overuse of the word ‘racist’ and to separate racism from “racial ills” (Blum, Of Race, 2002, p. 2). However, both are still wrong (Blum, Racism, 2002, p. 206). Blum develops a degree approach to racism to avoid what he calls (Blum, Of Race, 2002, p. 28) ““categorical drift”” (Blum, Of Race, 2002, p. 13). Being a racism is not “an “all or nothing” matter.
The emotional ,social and physical development of young children has an effect on their overall development and on the adult they will become. Sigmund Freud indicated how disruptions in stages of development may relate to current problems in adult hood for example :Trauma at an early stage in life may effectively prevent natural development through that stage this may then have a knock on effect in future stages causing development or learning problems for an adult . It is a positive thing for a client to recognise that certain childhood experiences may have prevented or halted their natural development ,since it provides a rational blame free explanation .If trauma does occur in childhood and problems arise because of that trauma then this
Lisa is a thirty-four year old women with two children, a boy and a girl. When Lisa was fourteen, she was raped by her uncle and she never received therapy for it. Not receiving therapy has changed her life drastically. Lisa ,although a good mother, suffers from depression,tends to drink a lot more than she should, and suffers from anorexia. Because of this, her social life is unstable.
Can a history of childhood trauma have impact on happiness as an adult? I would conduct my study using the correlational method. My research would include children who have experienced trauma and see how they are coping. I would also interview adults who have experienced trauma as children and see how they are coping. I would listen for common threads, traits and experiences in their stories.
