The Effect of Child Neglect and Abuse
The Children in today’s society are the most defenseless, vulnerable, and completely dependent on adults. How does neglect and abuse affect a child life? Children are born every day, some parents are prepared for their arrival and some aren’t which sometime leaves the children subject to neglect and abuse. Child abuse and neglect can have a multitude of long-term effects a child’s life. The type of neglect and abuse can range from the child being physically, sexually, emotionally and even medically abused. First I am going to discuss how the abuse can affect the child physically. When I think of physical abuse, I immediately think of some violence. Children are more vulnerable and fragile at a young age and are easily victimized. A child’s body is not tough enough to endure constant blunt force beatings. Children are left with burses and broken bones which can make it easily recognizable, whoever there are children that are physically abuse and nothing is visible to the eye. Leaving a child unfed and bathe can also be considered physical abuse. Being that the children usually abused at an early age and aren’t mature enough to grasp exactly what is taking place. Children who are excessively exposed to violence or abuse often develop a sense of depression. They begin to feel unwanted, unloved, and rejected which develops over time. Often when a child is physically abuse the effects are visible, however there are some cases when they aren’t. Whether the injuries are visible or unseen the child is still traumatized and tends to find a way to suppress the memories. Suppressing there sometime leads to psychological issues. The earlier children are maltreated the more likely they are to develop the behavior problems. Behaviors included will consist of actions and omissions, ones that are intentional and ones that are unintentional. Children who are faced with abuse or neglect are at a higher risk for rape in adulthood due to the thrive for love and affection that they was not given as a child. Being that they are unable stable mentally they can’t for see bad circumstances. Children shouldn’t be exposed to such dramatic occurrences in life, they are not equipped to handle it. Abused children will seek any attention to escape their inner feelings of self-doubt and abandonment. Drug use and the development of eating disorders are common in most cases as such.
