CONSTRUCTED RESPONSE 1. China's one child policy was a policy implemented in 1979 and was completely unnecessary. This policy was enforced by Mao Zedong, whose idea was originally to increase China's population. Due to China overpopulating, Mao created the idea which is known as the "one child policy". This policy controlled China's population, but also created lots of negative effects and issues such as additional effect on fertility rate, rise of sex ratio at birth, and cause of mental and social issues for children. Before the one child policy was enforced, China was going through a natural decrease in their fertility rate, but after the policy was enforced the fertility rate decreased even more. China's fertility rate was going through a "remarkably reduction, going from 5.8 births per woman in 1970 to 2.7 births per woman in 1979"(Document B). When China's one child policy was in place in 1979, the fertility rate was 2.7 births per woman. "From 1979 to 2008 China's fertility rate decreased, starting at 2.7 births per woman to 1.7 births per woman"(Document B). This shows that from 1970 to 2008 China's fertility rate decreased by a total of 4.1 births per woman. …show more content…
