Five children die every day as a result of child abuse. More that three out of four are under the age of four. Adenine is a four year old girl who survives through her child abuse and becomes a representative of hope, which all the girls can learn from. The novel Chinese Cinderella is written by the main character herself, Adeline Yen Mah . This novel talks about Adeline being abused by her own stepmom. Adenine describes how she was never loved by her stepmom, since she used to hit her and not feed her for no reason whatsoever. She also talks about the way that her stepmom had taken over the family when her grandmother died. “It should have ended there/ the coach turning soft and orange/ her gown dissolving into a frothy cloud” (1-3). This quote explains how girls know that the abuse they are suffering is not right and that it should have never occurred. But this quote gives vivid description about the suffering the character had to go through. It talks about in the poem that her gown had turned into a frothy pond, and that she had to stand outside when it was raining very hard. It also talks about the neighbour’s only son who has to go to work every day to make his own living. Even after this, the girl has enough confidence to say that it should have ended. This is not as easy to say as it looks, because the child being abused is usually pressured to felling that the abuse occurs because they are worthless and it is a way to treat the child. Children are also not able to think on their own due to their parents making all the choices for them that actually benefits the parents. Due to this the child has no say in what they want to do. And this poem gives a hope to all the girls being child abuse that if you try and think of the best it can
