Symbolism is defined as an object, word, mark, sign, or fact used to represent something. For example, doves mean peace and hope, flowers might mean growth, and a red octagon means stop. In the novel When the Emperor was Divine by Julie Otsuk, the symbolism of animals is used to represent how Japanese-Americans were free to live their lives to being trapped in a barbed wire fence with no freedom. The story follows a family of three who experienced life before, during, and after living in an internment camp after the Pearl Harbor Bombing. After arriving home from the camps, they still faced discrimination after not being guilty.

There are many arguments to say that the Yuan dynasty did in fact make its mark on China’s history. Whereas others argue that the Yuan dynasty was in fact, a irrelevance in China’s history that does not need to be as noted as other dynasties of greater importance. The Yuan dynasty came to pass after the Song dynasty was destroyed by the Mongols river battles and sieges against them. This was only the start of the Mongols reign and need of power.

A calendar marks the seasons and avails farmers to ken when to plant and harvest their grain. Like many antediluvian societies, China predicated its calendar upon the phases of the moon but then integrated extra months. This was because a solar year is not evenly divisible by an exact number of lunar months – there are about 12.37 lunar months during a solar seasonal year – so without the extra months, the seasons would drift each year. This is called a lunisolar calendar. The Chinese calendar ergo had a thirteen-month year every two or three years.

I was running down the field in hopes to catch the football thrown in my direction when I was hit. Everything seemed fine, until I tried to stand up. I felt excruciating pain come from my right leg, I looked down only to see the bone bulging from my right shin. I’ve always been told that no mater what you are dong adversity is going to come but it all breaks down to how you are going to respond.
