In 563 BCE Buddhism was founded by the prophet Gautama, who is today known as Buddha. Buddhists believe that life is full of suffering and that you needed to follow their moral code, the Eightfold Path, in order to reach complete peace or nirvana which was their form of afterlife. Christianity was founded by Jesus Christ and is centered around one god who loves and forgives all his children. Christianity and Buddhism both have strict moral codes, however they place value on different virtues.
Christianity and Buddhism are similar because they both have strict law codes and social standards to live by in order to achieve their form of afterlife. Christianity’s moral code are the Ten Commandments, which were allegedly given to Moses on Mt. Sinai by God the father himself. The moral code of Buddhism is the Eightfold Path which are the eight steps to achieve nirvana. Both religions believe that if you follow their moral code that you will achieve their afterlife, Heaven being that of Christianity’s. First off, Buddhists believe in reincarnation, while Christians believe that you only have one shot in life. Within Christianity there is much forgiveness, however it is over a very short period of time and there are no second chances after the final judgement. Buddhists believe that they will be reborn over and over again until they get it right, and then they will achieve nirvana.
