A quote from act 2 scene 5 Has Scrooge explaining to his sole employee, Bob Cratchit: “I'm not going to stand this sort of thing any longer. and therefore…I…am about to...raise...your salary.” This quote sees Scrooge go from threatening to fire his employee at the beginning of the play to giving him a well-earned raise that was long-due. Moreover, a similar stage direction from the same scene says: “Scrooge now comes to the room of his Nephew and Niece. He stops at the door, begins to knock on it, loses his courage, tries again, loses his courage again, tries again, fails again…” this captures Scrooge's remorse for his harsh and rather cold-hearted conversation with his beloved nephew, prior to his paranormal eve.
We come to learn that Scrooge changes with his attitude. One quote from the text that accurately confirms this is…“No warmth could warm, no wintry weather could chill him. ”(page 3). This excerpt from the text explains how troubled and insecure he is inside, using a metaphorical perspective. We, as the readers, can draw inferences and conclusions on how loathsome he seems.
In the movie and play A Christmas Carol Ebeneezer Scrooge discovers how his actions now could affect the afterlife. Both of these formats have many similarities, like how all the ghosts of Christmas are described and seen in the same way. Both have the Ghost of Christmas Past very bright, a woman, and held holly. The Ghost of Christmas Present is wearing a large green robe, very tall and mighty figure, and wears a beard. The Ghost of Christmas Future is black, frightening, and has bony fingers.
Before the visits, Scrooge never offered to help anyone, nor wished a merry Christmas. The older Scrooge was stingy towards his money and always thought what was best for himself. Towards the end of the play, Scrooge transforms into a different person, becoming generous instead of
Scrooge was so concerned about money and being rich that he failed to put people first and was rude to those who were not equally rich. Scrooge refused to give things to other people because he thought they should earn it themselves and not pester him for things. Scrooge did not give money to help others that were less fortunate than him even when he had plenty of money and possessions to share. Ebenezer failed to celebrate what Christmas was really about and only cared about how much money he had. Scrooge didn’t think about his eternity and what would become of him until the Ghosts showed him his past and how happy he was even when he had less.
