Who Is Christopher?
Introduction:
There are many people out there in the world, and many have mental disabilities but how can this affect a person? The book, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, is a story that follows a young boy with autism who writes a murder novel. It's not as simple as that, this young boy will explore and conquer his fears while learning about the world around him. This will shape the character you’ll know and love, but this begs the question.. Who is Christopher?
Character Relationships: Christopher Boone is the main protagonist of the story, throughout the book he makes new friends and gets out of his comfort zone. Christopher has autism, this makes

He has rules set out for himself so he can get by the day on a schedule or pattern. This is logical and easier for Chris so everything has its time and place. These patterns affect the mood of his day, for an example, “3 red cars in a row make it a quite good day, 5 red cars in a row made it a super good day and 4 yellow cars in a row made it a black day, which is a day when i don't speak to anyone and sit on my own reading books and don't eat my lunch and take no risks.” (Haddon 24). Without any pattern of plan, it makes Chris overwhelmed and eventually dizzy/sick. Christopher's travel to London was one of the hardest things he’s done. He went out to a place he didn't know and did things he pretty much hated. For Christopher's weaknesses, he only has a few. Being in environments he doesn't know, loud noises, people touching him, strangers. All these can trigger sudden outbursts of many emotions, even violence. This doesnt stop Christopher throughout his journey, yes it has an impact but overall it wont stop him from accomplishing his goals.

Chris resigned life as he knew it in 1992, and would be never to return. Along his journey he met several people with whom he bonded with more so than his own family. McCandless never had a great relationship with his parents due to clash of lifestyles, and that strain would grow deeper as he grew older and more distant. Chris wasn’t materialist, yet his family was well off, offering to purchase him schooling, new cars, and other fancy things. Chris specifically never saw eye to eye with his father, Walt, with the knowledge of Walt’s affair and the dismay it caused his mother.
That he couldn’t protect his mother from his abusive father. Even though Chris was a young child, he felt the responsibilities of an adult. He was
which unfortunately led him to reject and avoid any type of close relationships that he had made on his journey as Christopher did not want them to interfere with his decision to travel to Alaska on his own terms, as well as becoming completely concerned for his safety and welfare, which he almost failed to do so when he met an older man named Ron who deeply cared and loved Chrisopher as he wanted to adopt him into his family. Along the way Christopher starts to show his hatred towards authority as he goes on and shows multiple ways on how he avoided having to follow the law by breaking a lot of safety awareness laws which makes him an idiot as he risked his entire life and made it very difficult for others to come to his aid incase of an
The first reason Chris McCandless was not justified in leaving his family without a trace was because he abandoned his family and he was angry with his father. And Chris McCandless just leaving the house he wants to do what he wants to do. In the text it says, “ he hadn’t spoken to his family in nearly two years. ”(6). Because Chris was angry with family and didn't want to talk to them.
That started the summer he graduated from high school. His parents explained, “He could be generous and caring to a fault, but he had a darker side as well, characterized by monomania, impatience, and unwavering self-absorption, qualities that seemed to intensify through his college years (120).” The event that created Christopher to become more isolated was the father keeping a secret of having another family. After finding out about his father secret family Christopher started containing a dark side that wanted no part of human contact. He wanted ultimate freedom from individuals and society that led him not wanting to have any long-term intimacy relationships with the individuals he met throughout his journey.
When Chris first began his journey, deciding to leave everything behind, he failed his moral responsibility to at the very least communicate with his parents and family. He left without calling, writing, or talking to his parents about his plans or whereabouts. It is not difficult to picture how stressful and worrying it is to have an immediate family member disappear with no contact at all. This left his parents and siblings with a constant mix of stress, grief, and worry. His siblings felt a feeling of loss and abandonment while his parents were especially affected as they blamed themselves for not being able to understand Chris and this took a toll on their emotional well-being.
From an early age, he needed to do things his way or no chance to get by any stretch of the imagination. Chris had an astonishing soul, the desire to succeed, and the drive to get things going. Chris longings to live by his own ethical code, his law and not the law of any other individual's that would put shackles on his mind. Chris was a courteous and accomplished individual, great competitor, and high achiever in his reviews both in review school up through school. Nonetheless, after school he had an alternate arrangement for himself than his people, which again was yet another impediment for Chris and his folks, Chris was getting to be distinctly discontent with his mom and dad; Walt and Billie McCandless.
If he made an effort to keep even a little of touch with his parents or someone who was responsible he would have lowered the amount of danger he was in. However, Chris didn’t believe in that, he wanted to erase all tracing of him from society and he would soon realize that it caused him a lot suffering. He had it in his mind that he was invincible and nothing could stop him which proves his
Raising a child like Christopher is very difficult. Christopher often disappears in the middle of the night to go out for walks and quickly becomes overwhelmed in new environments. For the better well-being of Christopher, Ed tends to be very overprotective of him. An example of this is shown when Christopher wants to do detective work to find out who killed Wellington. This idea suggests that Christopher has to talk to strangers which he is not comfortable with.
He made his parents out to be the reason why he was going out into the wild. Chris had conflict with his family and on his journey he shared his unhappiness with everyone. One of Chris’s good friends Gail Borah was left with that impression. Gail stated that “It was pretty obvious he didn’t get along with his family, but he never said much about any of them except Carine, his little sister”. He made it seem that his parents didn’t care that he was out roaming around.
Chris seemed to become someone who was untrusting of others. I think this was caused by his parents. Chris never really saw eye to eye with his parents especially his father and after Chris learned of his father’s past double life his relationship with his parents had begun to deteriorate. A quote from his mother said “‘He seemed mad at us more often, and he became more withdrawn-no, that’s not the right word. Chris wasn’t ever withdrawn.
He’d successfully kept Jan Burres and Wayne Westerberg at arm’s length, flitting out of their lives before anything was expected of him. And now he’d slipped painlessly out of Ron Franz’s life as well,” every time someone tried to become close to him, he pushed him or her away. When Ronald Franz asked to adopt him, Chris told him that they would talk about it when he returns from Alaska. Chris’ problems with his father affected his ability to form new, close relationships, and ultimately sent him to his death.
Christopher doesn’t like loud noises, there are a lot of loud noises in his life. This is very hard for him because he cant avoid it. Unlike his dislike for yellow food where he can avoid eating it. Also, him not knowing how to ride the subway by himself, which was hopefully just a one time thing, loud noises happen all the time and he can’t avoid them. So, covering his ears, he finds yet another way to overcome his obstacles.
But he abandoned his family because he wanted to be alone. 3.His relationship with his dad was negatively affected and also outside too. They appear to want chris to be a successful student even though meanwhile his inside was appearance and especially walter and was an abusive father. He was selfish around him and others because he thinks his family was fake towards him.
Christopher grew up without knowing much about the world and life it self. He acts as what many would say a child. This is due to his Aspergers. In the beginning of the novel Christopher explains what he thinks of life.
