Christopher Columbus Christoforo Colombo also known as Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer who made multiple voyages across the Atlantic Ocean. Columbus was born on October thirty first of the year fourteen fifty one in Genoa. Some people say Columbus discovered the Americas but this is arguably not true seeing as their was people already living in the Americas. Columbus was looking for a water route from Europe to Asia when he accidentally stumbled across the Americas. He thought he had reached Asia but in reality, was in today’s North America. The Italian Explorer made four trips across the Atlantic Ocean. These were in the years of 1492, 1493, 1498, and 1502. In 1492 Columbus was promised ten percent of whatever riches he found. This made him eager to explore so Him and His crew set sail from Spain in three ships, the Nina, Pinta and the Santa Maria. Two months later Columbus made landfall on the Bahamian Islands. For months he sailed from island to island looking for valuable items such as gold, silver, spices, and other precious valuables. …show more content…

He destroyed the Hispaniola settlement later after he discovered it. He left behind his ship crews, enslaved people, and brothers to rebuild it. In 1498, Columbus visited Trinidad and the south American land, where he was revolted against and was arrested. He was returned to Spain. In 1502, the explorer who was cleared of most of the charges asked Spanish king for one more chance. Columbus was granted permission and was off on his adventure when he landed in panama. This was where he was attacked by hostile natives, and was forced to abandon two of four ships. Columbus returned to Spain empty handed where he spent the next four years slowly aging. This was the year the Italian explorer had died, 1506. Columbus was fifty five years old when he had past away and had two children with his wife Filipa Moniz
