Many Historians refer to the Columbus voyages as the Age of Exploration; however during this time period there was mass killing of natives,advancements in technology, and voyages that established European Colonies in the New World. Christopher Columbus made many great voyages between the time period of 1492-1503. One cannot deny the fact that Columbus leaves a grand and lasting legacy due to all the things he did while here on Earth. During this second trip Columbus was able to sail past the Bahamas and reach the Lesser and Greater Antilles. His third voyage departed May 1498 from Sanlucar, Spain with six ships. Three of these ships were sent with just materials to replenish the colonies that had been established throughout the Caribbean while the other three were sent to further explore the south Caribbean in hopes to find a passageway to Asia. In this exploration he made a sighting of what a lot of fresh water that meant that there had to be a continental landmass nearby. Due to getting sick Columbus was forced to return home. On his fourth voyage Columbus set out in search of a strait to the Indian Ocean. He set sail out of Cadiz in May of 1502 with four ships. He finally reached land in August of 1502 on what today would be Honduras and spent months exploring the country of Honduras, and other countries such as Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Panama. He was known enslave, rape, and kill the Native people for gold. DUe to Columbus action it is estimated that he killed of 98% of the native Taino people of Hispaniola. Columbus was the reason a lot of European diseases came to the natives that they were not immune to causing them to die. Many natives were killed due to overwork because they were forced to work for many hours in horrible conditions they were essentially made slaves to the spanish. It has been written down that at one point he organized several hundred men and over twenty attack dogs and set out and killed thousands of sick and unarmed natives.
