1) Educational/ instructional material on the interpretation of the PROM scores and the clinicians’ roles in using PROMs to plan treatment and monitor changes in outcomes in collaboration with patients. 2) A half-day training workshop. 3) Feedback reports of individuals’ PROM scores (Appendix 3); and 4)
Interestingly, social function was the most frequently selected domain with pain intensity, although participants did not consider social health as an important area as physical health, which was obviously supported by the results of the open-ended question and PROMIS cards parts of the interview. Social function was merged from two PROMIS domains; “ability to participate in social roles and activities” and “satisfaction with social roles and activities”. These two domains were combined because the participants had difficulty differentiating between them and therefore they only selected one of them during the interview. A systematic review showed that the social component of life was important for individuals with LBP 55. In addition, WHO reported that LBP affects the work performance among individuals with LBP and it considered a leading cause of work absence and loss 53.
NUR-342 written assignment Need for Change meets the criteria of Outcome 2, because the interventions developed focused on how to meet the patient’s treatment goals. As well as strategies to incorporate multiple healthcare disciplines in the development of a treatment plan. This assignment addressed the need to consider the long-term impact of treatment interventions. NUR 443 PLEET form meets the outcome for knowledge of human diversity because it is a summary of my experiences in the practice-learning environment (PLE). The PLE highlighted the creation and implementation of education strategies for a diverse population.
Whenever someone sees a doctor, they automatically assume that they are medical doctors. Many people do not know that there is more than one type of doctors. This does not necessary include the field of doctors, but rather the type. The other type of doctor is known as a D.O., which is also known as an osteopathic doctor. I, myself, did not even know what a D.O. was.
The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have strongly recommended the use of PT, non-drug, non-opioid as the first-line of treatment for chronic pain. The public tends to think that physical therapy deals more on the physical aspect of health. As we have learned in Health and Wellness, there is more than to the physical aspect of health. Wellness do not only include
Low back pain is a major issue across the world and it can be either specific or nonspecific (s6).1 Specific low back pain refers to any diagnosis that can be attributed to an infection, disease, trauma, injury, or structural deformity. Specific low back pain diagnosis is rare and only makes up 15 to 20 percent of low back pain cases, meaning most back pain is nonspecific (s6).1 Nonspecific low back pain is pain localized in the area of the back below the margin of the last ribs and above the inferior gluteal lines, which could include lower limb pain and numbness.2 (s5) Nonspecific low back pain is a major problem around the world and is one of the main causes of disability (s3).3 The characteristics of nonspecific LPB are heavy pain that
Every day in this country, 9000 healthcare workers sustain a disabling injury while performing job-related tasks and many of these unfortunate health care workers are registered nurses. Sometime these injuries can be debilitating, career-ending and life altering. They can result to lost work time or sometimes permanent disability. The Bureau of Labor and Statistics in 2006 first started to survey non-fatal injuries in the workplace and revealed that one of the highest rates were among nursing staff. An estimated 12% of nurses leave nursing annually because of back injuries and more than half complain of chronic back pain.
As a professional, one must adhere to the guiding principles defined by the professional association. Scope of Practice outlines the “notions of professional conduct, accountability and self- governance and expanded practice”. Scope of Practice summarizes “the range of roles and activities an individual registrant or licensee is permitted to undertake in the course of professional practice. These roles and activities are largely determined by professional education and practice competence along with factors in the practice context, such as demands on practitioners’ services and available resources” (Fealy 2005). Scope of Practice is based upon the “profession 's unique body of knowledge, supported by educational preparation, a body of evidence, and existing or emerging practice frameworks” (American Physical Therapy Association, 2015).
A multidisciplanary team is very important in helping the physio prevent low adherence especially if a patient has more complex needs. (Borrill et al., 2000). Patients are ignorant about important issues, the nature of their disease and nature of their home exercise treatment. (Vermeire et al., 2001). A good physio/ patient relationship is an essential variable in ensuring high adherence.
Introduction: The ABCD (Attitude, Behaviour, Compassion and Dialogue) of dignity-conserving care is a fundamental tool for use by healthcare professionals (HPCs) to establish empathy with patients and to uphold human dignity (Chochinov, 2007: 184). These 4 key elements will be discussed with reference to the given scenario. The importance of establishing empathy with patients, and how the ABCD aids this, will be outlined. My own thoughts and self-reflection in response to the scenario will be discussed and the process of becoming a future Integrated Health Professional (IHP) will be considered.
