Cinderella is considered to be one of the most successful animation film produced by the Walt Disney Company. The film has translated to most of the spoken languages and has spread its influence around the world. High majority of people around the world are aware and have heard of the Disney version of story Cinderella. Two versions of Cinderella were being produced by The Walt Disney Company, animation and live-action movie, both targeted at similar and different audiences. The first version of Cinderella released in 1950 was right after the Second World War (Edwards “How”). During the war period, entertainments were banned or discouraged in many countries. The Cinderella character has transformed from a maid serving for her step-sisters and step-mother to a princess who lives happily ever after. Such transformation from the poor to rich has raised popularity amongst women audience from different generation and has given hope to people especially during the post war period. What people at the time needed was the hope for future. During the war period, many major companies, schools, even one’s family structure were destroyed. The Cinderella story has given motivation for people to move forward with their lives and be positive about the future. Cinderella being a maid act as a metaphor of devastating period of war where the transformation of receiving a better life is possible for everyone. Despite all the humiliation from her stepmother and stepsisters, Cinderella never lose hope. This guided people in thinking optimistically about the future, on the success its nation is going to earn. Her kindness and hard work had made her a princess, living a life of all women’s dream. The story’s climax was reached when the godmother transformed Cinderella’s ripped dress to a ball gown (Geronimi Cinderella).
