According to fine, we have civil liberties and civil rights(fine,2016). There is a significant difference. As a United State citizen, we have civil liberties. These are defined as our rights that grants the ability to do and say things individually(Fine,2016). These relate back to the bill of rights(Fine,2016). Some of these you may hear about are the freedom of speech and right to privacy. Civil rights are more directed at the right not to be discriminated for who you are(Fine,2016). This helps promote equality to all citizens(Fine,2016). Discrimination is an issue that is seen and heard about all over the world. Individuals can be discriminated against for anything(Fine,2016). The civil liberties are extremely important for the government obligations to ensure that the democratic governance run properly(fine,2016). The supreme court case Shelby vs holder is known to help protect voters(hauer,2014). This helps ensure that all votes are counted equally(hauer,2014). This is one of the obligations of the government to promote equal right to vote(fine,2016). This means that no matter the race that it counts as one vote for that state(katel,2012). There have been many debates about equality on voting. There also has been a lot of discrimination on this against certain races. The 1965 voting act, helps promote individuals with equality to vote(hauer,2014). Before the voting act there was discrimination against African Americans in the south(Fine,2016). If a United States citizen is prevented from voting either privately or publicly the government should step in(Fine,2016). One way could be eliminating the issue stopping them from being not being allowed to vote(Fine,2016). This is an obligation the government will takes to help promote equality(Fine,2016). Our 14th amendment grants us the right to citizenship where we gain rights(Fine,2016). If you were born in the United States, you automatically become a citizen. One complication of taking these boarders away though can lead to voting fraud. One issue with this has become requiring id for voting when entering the poll(Jost,2014). This tries to help voting fraud and this helps the government get involved (Jost,2014). This also can become a discrimination issue were the government can become obligated to get involved(Jost,2014). The supreme court case and the right to voting act involves are 15th amendment(Jost,2014). This amendment prevents the right to be denied voting (Jost,2014).
