Civil Liberties are basic rights protected in the Bill of Rights, Constitution, and through Supreme Court rulings. Civil Rights ensure an individual to be treated fairly and equally from the likes of government and other individuals. Civil liberties and Rights are both similar in that they protect the individual of rights of people, allowing society to function in a successful and reasonable manner. Both are essential in the modern world today in order to protect individuals from unfair treatment. Though being very similar, Civil liberties and Rights do have their differences as well. Personally, I believe that Civil Liberties have defined my life in a larger fashion than Civil Rights have. I find this to be true because, as a white male, I have faced little to no discrimination compared to some of my minority counterparts. I believe that Civil Rights are essential, but personally Civil Liberties have had a larger effect upon my life. Civil Liberties have given me important things in my life such as freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and freedom to bear arms. These Civil Liberties have affected my life in a positive way but thanks to my other Civil Liberties I know I can count on fair treatment. Although I have not committed an illegal act, I know that if I am suspected of one that I will have Civil Liberties in place to protect me. I am protected from unreasonable seizures or searches as well as being ensured to a speedy trial by my peers without an unreasonable bail. Also, if I am found innocent of a crime, I cannot be prosecuted for the same crime a second time. These Civil Liberties have had a larger influence on my life thus far than Civil Rights have
