In the past there have been many incidents that have been caused because of greed, oppression, unfairness etc. the biggest one regarding American history would have to be the American Civil War. Everyone knows what the civil war is and what it is about. However, most people don’t know the major events that led up to the Civil War. The biggest misconception about the Civil war is that most people think it was only fought over slavery. That ideology is not true at all. There were a few other major events that caused and led up to the war such as: The Missouri Compromise, the Dred Scott decision, and the President Abraham Lincoln Election,

The decision in 1857 by the Supreme Court in the case of Dred scott, the American Supreme Court denied Scotts plea, deciding that no African American could or would ever be a United States citizen. The Dred Scott case was perhaps the most important legal case ever issued by the U.S. Supreme Dree Court . This was the infamous 1857 ruling in which Chief Justice Roger Taney wrote that Negroes "had no legal rights which the white man was bound to respect." Most historians agree that the Dred Scott ruling put the nation on an inevitable path to civil war. The Dred Scott decision sparked the civil war because the North argued that once a free state always a free state, meaning that when Dred Scott went to freeman territory, he should be declared a free man no matter what, but the Supreme Court argued that slaves are nothing but property and only that, they aren’t humans, they have no rights, and their only goal is to obey their masters. Taney, part of the Supreme Court, even said “slaves have no rights which any white man was bound to respect.” Tenny also confirmed that Slaves were property and not human. The Dred Scott decision was a pivotal turning the nation to what would become the American Civil
