The Civil War
The American Civil War, which lasted from 1861 to 1865, was an important turning point in American history. It was a conflict between the Union, or northern states, and the Confederacy, or southern states. The problem of slavery and its extension into other territories was the fundamental cause of the Civil War. The American Civil War was the most crucial event because it preserved the United States as a single nation and ended slavery, which had split the country since its founding. The Battle of Gettysburg was one of the most important conflicts of the American Civil War. The event took place from July 1st to July 3rd. The Union Army led by General George defeated the Confederate Army led by Robert Lee, and it is marked as the major defeat for the Confederate Army. ‘’He devised a plan to split his army and take supplies to Maryland, move into Pennsylvania, and threaten Washington, D.C. His plans fell into Union hands, and the Union Army marched to confront the force he commanded at Antietam Creek, in northern Maryland.’’ The battle was also significant because it gave the Union Army a much-needed morale boost and prevented the Confederate Army from advancing into the North. Antietam Battlefield This fight, which took place on September 7, 1862, in Maryland, was the deadliest of the Civil War, with over 23,000 casualties. The Union Army won the Battle of Vicksburg, which took place in Mississippi from May 18th to July 4th, 1863. The Battle of Shiloh took place in Tennessee from April 6th to April 7th, 1862, and was one of the deadliest conflicts of the Civil War, with over 30,000 casualties. the third thing that helped them win was the novel blockade the union Navy was able to establish a blockade of Confederate ports which severely limited the South's ability to Import and Export Goods this weekend the Confederate economy and made it more difficult for them to sustain the war effort the union also had several military leaders including Grant and William sherman who were able to device and execute successful military strategies. They're political leadership was very strong with Abraham Lincoln during the war he was able to maintain support for the war effort among the northern population and effectively managed the Union's military and political strategies overall
