On April 12, 1861, Abraham Lincoln declared war on the South, which was then known as the Confederacy. The Confederacy had seceded from the United States, which enrages Lincoln and cause him to do this. This four-year long war was known as the Civil War and is one of the most known wars in the United States. The Civil War was all started by the North’s and South’s opinions on slavery.
The Southerners had an opinion that the Civil War was all the North’s fault, and Abraham Lincoln was the cause of it. In document 2, it says that all the South had been asking was to be left alone by the North, that they never attacked the North, and the North robbed them of the property they owned. They also say that the North disregarded that laws of Congress. They blame Abraham Lincoln and the North for causing the tensions between the regions. They also say that Lincoln’s election will ruin the social, political, and industrial institutions.

They both said thought that the proclamation wouldn’t solve the problem of slavery. Even thought they thought that for different reasons, they both thought that the proclamation wouldn’t help anything. In document 6, it says the Northerners thought that because if slavery still existed in the South, the proclamation did nothing to stop it. The South thought that if people on rebel grounds weren’t considered enslaved people, it would indirectly benefit them by gathering all the people form the North, taking them onto Southern grounds, and enslaving them there. They thought they would have to do this because before when people in the North were still enslaved, the South weren’t allowed to take them since it was considered Northern property. But with the proclamation, they could take people in the North and enslave them in the
