The Great Victory of the North During the deathly 4 years of the Civil War, there were a total of 620,000 deaths for the purpose of bringing the country back together and end slavery. The North has gained their glorious victory by being the owner of things like strong transportation system, large population, and stable resources. When the war began, the differences in resources from both sides are clearly noticed. Even though the South was well known for its massive cotton farming, but most of the cotton got sent to the North, waiting, to be turned into clothes and goods before export to different places. According to a line chart, “Resources for War: North Versus South,” the ratio of textile (including cotton) that was produced from the North to South is 17:1. The difference is quite large. Even though the South had hundreds of cotton farms but they don’t own many factories. Without factory, all the textile in the South was being produced at a really slow rate. According to document 5, “Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation,” on January, Abraham Lincoln presented the Emancipation Proclamation to the country and claimed that all slaves “within any State or designated part of a Stat... [will] forever be free.” Because the South population was mostly made of slaves, this Emancipation Proclamation cause many slaves to rebel from their owner(s) and fight for their freedom. The Emancipation Proclamation had given the slaves hopes that they will soon be free and encouraged them to fight harder for their freedom. The South was fighting a Civil War with not only the North but also within their own people.
