Because the North has its strength in factories, creating goods and weapons is not as hard as it is down in
From manpower ratios where the north had about 22 million out of the total population of 31 million, the north had had greater amount of resources that the south did not have. The north was also blessed with large tracts of arable land used to providing food crops for its soldiers as well as money for its industries while the
The American Civil War began in 1861 and it came to an end on 13th May 1865, with a victory for the North. However, in the past the South had won earlier battles of the war, at first they appeared to have strong military leadership. There were many reasons why the South did not win the war, other than their poor strategy within the military generals. Economic, social, political and military were one of the major factors. The North was better economically than the South, and this enabled the North to buy more guns, supplies, and equipment for the war.
Economy The North went into the direction of manufacturing and engineering to make money. It became a benefit in the war, as their abilities in weaponry and machinery flourished and profited. On the other hand, the South relied on agriculture, and then their economy diminished in the war. The Northern farmers actually did better than the Southern farmers, and they were not relying on agriculture to make money.
Through the civil war, the union had three major that turned around the war and helped the union win. Without these advantages the union would have probably not won because of the strong military of the south. Throughout this essay we will review these 3 advantages of the union. One major advantage that helped the Union was population. One example of greater population in the union army is in the battle of Gettysburg.
In 1860, Abraham Lincoln won the presidential election, this sparked a chain of events that led to the civil war beginning. With the election, the south seceded from the Union. South Carolina was first in December of 1860, then Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas in February of 1861. Theses seceded states established the Confederate States of America naming Jefferson Davis as the first Confederacy president. The states of Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina were then motivated to secede when the Confederate troops opened fire on the federal army base in Fort Sumter, SC.
The North had an excellent Navy that had the ability to blockade things that were headed to the Southern states. The South desperately needed food, weapons, and ammunition but weren’t able to get their supplies because the North had blockades that stopped the supplies they needed. The North also had gun factories, shipyards, and coal readily available at anytime which puts them at a huge advantage over the South. They had more money and were just more advanced in their industry, which helped them win the civil war.
The Civil War was a war that lasted four years,1861 through 1864, it was a huge conflict between the north and the south, better known as the Confederate States. The northern states and southern states came into many discrepancies which eventually led to a few of the southern states seceding from the Union. Many have argued that it was fought over slavery and state that it was due to the fact that the main reason the south left the Union was that they wanted to preserve slavery, while the north didn’t. However, others disagree and state that the Civil War wasn’t fought over slavery because the north didn’t really focus on the aspect of slavery, they were mainly shifted their focus on preserving and saving the Union. Frederick Douglass’s statement
The south was geographically blessed and had a heavy economic advantage over the middle and northern
Already they were at an advantage number-wise. As if this were not already enough, the Union also had clever, sly generals in place. Throughout the war, the Union continued to build railroads, they used this to their advantage. By using these new railroads, it became far easier to distribute rations and weapons to the Union soldiers. Furthermore, the Union used an anaconda tactic, which stopped the Confederate rations from getting to their soldiers.
I think that the greatest advantage that the north had was the numbers and the industrialization. If the south had the same access to the industrialization that the north had as well as the amount of people then I that there could have been a different outcome to the war. The south knew the topography and the weather conditions of the land where the battles were being fought. If they were able to employ the same type of force like the north had they would have had a better chance at winning the war. But since they did not see the point in taking the industrialization as serious as the north did since they were making such good profits from agriculture in my opinion they did not have a good chance at winning the war from the
At first, it seemed as though the North had all the advantages to succeed greatly in the Civil War. First, the North had the population advantage, meaning there was more people to fight in the war and to make war materials. Population wise, this was not a war of equals, because the North was vastly superior in size than the South. Also the industrial control alone was a huge advantage that was unmatched by it's Southern enemies, who relied on their soldiers already having possession of the needed materials. Second, the North was wealthier than the South and could finance a war without depending on prospective trade on cash crops.
Even though by the end of the Civil War each side had lost thousands of their men, and much of their morale, both the Union and the Confederate States of America had advantages through the beginning years of the war. The North had many advantages over the South. For one, the North had more dominance over the CSA in relation to the available resources for war. Because most factories were located inside the remaining states of the Union, the North could manufacture and produce their own supplies for war while the South was less privileged in this sense.
The Civil War was a monumental bloodshed, which was fought between the United States of America and the Confederate States, from 1861 to 1865. The primary cause of the war was the Southern states' desire to preserve the institution of slavery, which did not please the beliefs of the North. At the beginning of the Civil War, twenty-two million people lived in the North and 9 million people, which included four million of whom were slaves, lived in the South. The North, led by President Abraham Lincoln and his trusted generals, had more money, more factories, more horses, more railroads, and more food than the south. These advantages made the United States much more powerful than the Confederate States, which ultimately led to Northern victory.
The North had many advantages. They beat the South in population they could draw soldiers from. The North had 22 million citizens where the South only had 5.5 million citizens. The North could transport supplies and people faster because of their roads, canals, and railroads. However the South disconnected from itself with barely any railroads and hard to move soldiers and goods from place to place.
