The North had railroad links that would transport their supplies, guns, ammunition, and uniforms from their factories to the frontlines. At the time the North had a population of 22 million people against the 9 million in the South (of whom almost half were slaves.) The North was more industrial and produced 94 percent of the USA’s pig iron and 97 percent of its firearms.
During the feud between the North and South, the South were establishing a military that seemed to be well-built and stronger, in comparison to the forces of the North. However, the South had many inexperienced troops that were very unorganized and ill prepared. Also, in comparison to the North, the South's food supply and resources, were minimal. In the North, manufacturing gave them the upper-hand,
One of the primary reasons why the North gained victory during the Civil War was mainly due to the presence of many industries as well as factories. These industries provided not only funds but also the weapons which include guns. However, unlike the Northern states, the Confederates lacked industries for they primarily dealt with cotton growing, as a result, during the war they lacked advanced ammunition supplies. According to statistics, the Northern states enjoyed approximately 81% of America’s industrial capacity as well as 80% of the capital and bank. Presence of both capital and bank aided in providing the required finances for funding the war; hence, the Northern states were sufficiently well-off to engage in the war and also maintain its troops, war weapons, and food.
The Civil War was one of the most important historical events in America. The North won the war, several factors played an important role in the outcome. The industrialized economy was one factor that turn the war in their favor. The North, had supplied the army with arms, munitions and food.
Who won really won the civil war? Who benefitted the most after, who came out on top, and who achieved what they wanted to? Some may argue that in war there are no winners, but the North definitively came out on top after the civil war. Coming out of the war the North had a stable economy, more political power, had united the country, and ended slavery. Coming out of the war the South’s economy was in shambles, they failed to succeed from the Union, their free labor was gone, their agricultural land was destroyed, and they had to rebuild.
The clash between the North and South over slavery, states’ rights, and several other conflict led a civil war in the United States. The Confederate South, which is known for its profound military history, turned out to be no opposition for quickly developing North in the Civil War. The North that was industrialized, strongly equipped realized that a lot of their triumphs were somewhat easily obtainable. Strong leadership, number of troops, and economy are only few of the factors that led to the Union's victory over the Confederate succeeded states. Number of troops, army supply and finance of the war played a role in which side was to win the war.
The North had many advantages over the South the helped them win the civil war. These reasons included a central leadership, more resources, and recruiting black men for their armies. These reasons helped the North win the civil war and play a big part in how successful they would be. With having advantages, better tactics when fighting, and also a higher population, the North would use strategic planning to fight the South and ultimately win the civil war.
The reason for the Civil War was more about the Union wanting to keep states’ rights vs federal power than the issue of slavery. A lot of the early battles ended with no clear winner but lots of losses on both sides. The Confederate Army, led by General Robert E. Lee, managed to break Union lines in June 1862 but the momentum would slow down on September 17, 1862 with the Battle of Antietam. This battle became known as the bloodiest single battle of the war with over 8,000 dead and 18,000 wounded, the North would win with the halt of advancement of General Lee. With this win, President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation which freed all slaves under the Confederacy as of January 1, 1863.
In order to change history so that the Confederacy wins the Civil War, I would kill two influential people to the Union cause: Joshua L. Chamberlain and Ulysses S. Grant. I would make sure that Chamberlain was killed during in combat on Little Round Top during Gettysburg before he called for the swinging gate maneuver. If Chamberlain was unable to initiate the swinging gate maneuver that led to a Confederate defeat on Little Round Top, then the Confederates would have eventually overtaken the outgunned Union troops. By securing Little Round Top, The Confederates would have the perfect vantage point to attack and fire on the Union army, and such casualties could have led to a Confederate victory at Gettysburg.
As the North was a much more industrialized area with many factories to make everything needed for war. While on the other hand, the South is a much more agricultural-based economy but the North still had more farmland that could operate without slave labor because they had small farms rather than large plantations. The North also had natural resources such as iron, coal, copper, and gold that were much more abundant there than in the South. A few examples of the comparative advantage of the North’s manufacturing is that the North produced 17 times more cotton and woolen textiles than the South, 30 times more leather goods, 20 times more pig iron, and 32 times more firearms. The North produced 3,200 firearms to every 100 produced in the South.
“Northern states had a combined population of 22 million people. The Southern states had a combined population of about 9 million... the Union forces outnumbered the Confederates roughly two to one (Number Of Soldiers). This helped the Union tramedicaly because they outnumbered the Confederates. The South with only 9 million stood up to a great challenge with the Union at 22 million.
The North fought to preserve the union. The South fought to win recognition as an independent nation. The North also had many more advantages than the South. The North’s wealth estimated to more than two time that of the South. The North also had every type of industry, including 90% of the country’s total manufacturing.
The Civil War was a monumental bloodshed, which was fought between the United States of America and the Confederate States, from 1861 to 1865. The primary cause of the war was the Southern states' desire to preserve the institution of slavery, which did not please the beliefs of the North. At the beginning of the Civil War, twenty-two million people lived in the North and 9 million people, which included four million of whom were slaves, lived in the South. The North, led by President Abraham Lincoln and his trusted generals, had more money, more factories, more horses, more railroads, and more food than the south. These advantages made the United States much more powerful than the Confederate States, which ultimately led to Northern victory.
