Although, both the North and the South had advantages those that the South believed would led them to victory such as; trained soldiers, prepared leaders and economic stability, had in time led to their defeat. To begin, with the first advantage the Confederacy displayed over the Union was the leading experience. The South had reasons to believe that this would be a powerful element, since Abraham Lincoln had no experience in military training. Even though, this seemed to be a beneficial factor to succeed at war, it wasn’t. Jefferson Davis was doing a terrible job, he failed
The North on the other hand had an overwhelming number in profitable industries. According to Edmunds the manufacture of the supplies is what drove the North to victory. The North was able to provide weapons, mainly iron, food, and clothes. Since the industries continued to grow for the North they were able to invest in more transportation ways. They had the material and the money with was beneficial to the Union.
Either way, the people from the North and South had reasons why they joined the army. The main purpose was to fight for patriotism, state pride, adventure, and a steady pay. Having that said, the Union soldiers also fought to preserve the Union. The Confederate soldiers fought to defend their homes and sometimes they attacked because if the Union wins, it could lead the black people be placed with the whites. The Union and Confederate soldiers had supplies that they could get easily or very difficult.
This was advantageous for them because it meant that they could produce their own supplies for the war. The infrastructure was beneficial to them because they had a large, expansive railroad system. Their railroad system allowed them to transport both troops and materials easily from place to place. Their strong infrastructure also included their navy and war equipment. During the war, the Union had a stronger navy and better weapons than the South.
The advantage for the Union was that they had more men and more resources. The Confederate Army also had resources but not as many. The Union army had 87,000 men fighting in this battle and in the Confederate Army there was 45,000 men fighting. Giving a huge advantage to the North. The weapons used were guns, swords, and canons.
How was life in the North different from life in the South Life in the north was different than the south in multiple ways such as the differences between wages and economy. The different weather And the different kinds of society. The economy between north and south were very different, in the north there were lots of machines which is why there was such a big industrial revolution. But in the south there was more land to be bought and sold. there was a big demand for guns and ammunition to, lots of people needed guns for hunting and protection.
The Union, that was under Abraham Lincoln, keep the Northern states together and able to operate better. They were able to function as a whole unit rather than separate states like the south had done. By having this, they were able to keep their government together and on the same page. The South wasn’t able to function as a
The Civil War is considered to be the bloodiest episodes of warfare in American History. During this war, there were numerous well known battles. One of the most famous battles was called the Second Battle of Bull Run. The Second Battle of Bull Run was fought over August 28-30, 1862. Although this battle lasted only 3 days, there were approximately 22,000 casualties during this span.
When comparing the Union and confederacy, they are a lot of dissimilar attributes between these groups. During the early war between the years 1861-1862, neither side was a 100% prepared for the war but the Union Army was bigger, and could draw on a far bigger populace for substitutions. The Union Army had better equipment and ammunition, and could fabricate their own particular cannons. The Union's powers were comprised of a far bigger rate of workers, and as a rule had great junior and
“Northern states had a combined population of 22 million people. The Southern states had a combined population of about 9 million... the Union forces outnumbered the Confederates roughly two to one (Number Of Soldiers). This helped the Union tramedicaly because they outnumbered the Confederates. The South with only 9 million stood up to a great challenge with the Union at 22 million.
The rising numbers of death in the South tremendously weakened their army, which allowed for a Northern succession. William C. Davis asserts, “Industrially the South couldn’t keep up in output and in manpower. By the end of the war, the South had, more or less, plenty of weaponry still, but it just didn’t have enough men to use the guns”. Having such a small army, the South was not able to sustain a decent amount of soldiers for the war. Henceforth, the Northern advantage of having more soldiers had a large impact on the Southern loss in the Civil
The North had many advantages. They beat the South in population they could draw soldiers from. The North had 22 million citizens where the South only had 5.5 million citizens. The North could transport supplies and people faster because of their roads, canals, and railroads. However the South disconnected from itself with barely any railroads and hard to move soldiers and goods from place to place.
The economic impact of the war as is true in most if not all cases of war are that the spoils of war are the reward of the victors. The South was already in a weaker position in the industrial strength of its geographical coalition that it was amazing that they were as close to actually succeeding in their mission. They lacked the ability to replenish their troops with guns and ammunition and in many cases had to gather this gear from failed Confederate and Union soldiers. While in the north with a large population and a more sustained economy they were to accomplish the
After four long years, the Unions won the war which saw to it that both parties ended up as a united nation once again. The North overpowered and defeated the South due to a number of reasons as illustrate below. To begin with, the fact that the South majored in agriculture made them to be left behind in terms of industrialization, an important factor during the civil war since fabricated merchandise was highly regarded than agricultural products. The North was therefore privileged to be in a better position in production of armory since it was able to host firms that manufactured ammunitions and war locomotives. The South was poorer, since cotton was no longer making ready income and they only had a few manufacturing origins.
The Union had more railroad lines and they had the telegraph system. The telegraph system was a huge advantage for the Union because they could now send messages thousands of miles away in less than a minute. President Abraham Lincoln could now command the Union’s generals in the safety of his own office. The railroad lines gave the Union a big advantage because they could transport resources faster than the Confederate
