According to Paul Collier’s book, The Bottom Billion, 73 percent of the ‘bottom billion’ have been involved in a civil war or are still in one. By starting a civil war, it creates a vicious cycle, where the civil war causes poverty, and there is a lower income as a result of the civil war. By having less improvement, and less income for the people, there are more angry people in the country which causes more tension, causing more of a civil war between the people. An example of this is the Union army of america, in 1864. During the civil war, wealth between the people was dropping and the price of things were increasing, and large amounts of cropland were worn out and the products like cotton and tobacco fell which made many people get a lower
