In “The HitchHiker” there were many different effects, such of sound effects, and music. I could tell that the noise created a better tone, and mood for the tale. Such as when Ronald’s vehicle stalled while directly located on a busy train track. As he was frantically trying to restart his car, you could hear the train whistle off in the distance. At first, it didn’t seem too much of a conflict, but as the train begins quickly catching up to the helpless Ronald, you could hear the whistle get louder, and more vigorous with it’s dinging, and clanging.
Discussing the role of Jewish composers in US popular music from 1950 - 1960. “Being Jewish, the Jews’ hunger to fit in, and their ease at doing so helped shape both the core of their identity and many of America’s greatest songs.” - Gluck 2013 Between 1880 and 1924, two and a half million Jews had reached breaking point. Fleeing persecution in Russia and Eastern Europe, they kissed their small town “shetls” goodbye and emigrated to America.
Citizen Kane, (Orson Welles, 1941), was a breakthrough film of its time of release in 1941. The director, Orson Welles, had been in radio and had already made somewhat of a name for himself onstage, as well as a director and manager of his own company. After failing to persuade his Hollywood contractor RKO with his first script and movie project, he decided to focus on creating a screenplay about a “millionaire media magnate William Randolph Hearst.” (Lewis, p158). Hence, Citizen Kane debuted and presented new technical elements and narrative ways to produce a movie and capture viewers.
The word genre comes from the French word for 'class ', (Chandler, 1997). Film genre refers to a specific style or subject matter. A movie may have several different components that may make up a specific genre. Genres makes it easier for the audience, as the categorization of genres lets the audience pick what sort of movie they would like to watch. While the music played a large role it really showed off suspense and climax moments. The music was usually a loud flat decline in scale which created a thick surrounding feel. This complemented the lighting in a way to work together and create a scene which builds suspense and makes you want to know what happens next. The makeup and costumes in the film were very different from person to person to show either manic or considerably “normal” personalities.
A comparison of the Beijing Opera and the Italian Opera reveals a significant contrast in almost all fundamental areas of music between the two examples. Because of cultural influences, the two performances share little commonalities, as the timbre, medium, elements of pitch, rhythm, dynamics, form and phonic structure are definitely not similar. For instance, the musical and physical performance dynamics of the Beijing opera music are forceful, the timbre is loud, tinny and harsh, the rhythm is lively and vigorous, while the Italian Opera music has a gentle dynamic, steady and rolling rhythm and an emotionally deep timbre. One commonality that is noted for both examples, is the powerful delivery of the entertainment.
Classical music made its debuted to the world stage around the 18th and 19th centuries in Europe and North America. The compositions of Bach, Haydn, and Beethoven embody the skill and talent that comes with this genre. Yet, while their bodies have decayed their music has not. The reason for this, is that their works have been canonized as being significant or worthy to escape the boundaries of time. Through analysis of primary and secondary documents we will see how this canon process emerged, as well as how aspiring composers either conformed or opposed to this tradition.
In the Victorian Age, music was a prominent form of entertainment for all families. Whether it was making their own music, sitting around singing songs together, or having dances, music was a very important part of the Victorian Era. The classical Hollywood tradition of filmmaking has been both extremely influential and successful since the 1920s. Furthermore, the classical Hollywood cinema technique of making movies is not limited only to movies in the United States. For instance, “The Road Warrior, although an Australian film, is constructed along classical Hollywood lines” (Bordwell et al. 97). Director Alfonso Cuarón’s Y Tu Mamá También, which was produced and distributed in Mexico, is a coming of age story revolving around two young friends, Tenoch and Julio as they go on a road trip to the beach.
Jazz and Classical are two very different genre types of music. They are different because jazz music is mostly made up by the musician while it is being performed whereas, Classical musicians play the exact notes that are on the music sheet by the person who wrote the music when they perform. Another reason they are different is because the way the rhythms are performed. Classical music starts on the first beat of each measure and Jazz starts on the second beat of each measure. In jazz music, there is a swing beat meaning that instead of two eighth notes being equal in length, the first eighth note is longer than the second one in a triple feel.
