Aya Hayashi, a classmate and exchange program student is my partner for this assignment. I met Aya soon after coming here when all the international students had a meet and greet session. I knew a bit about Aya, but after this assignment, I feel like I can say that I truly know and can understand her. This interview gave me an opportunity to not only talk to Aya about her daily life, but also her dreams and aspirations.
Aya Hayashi is a 20-year-old exchange student from Osaka, Japan. She is now majoring in English. Aya is the only child of Akihiro and Miwa Hayashi. Her father is a police officer/detective with Japan’s National Police Agency. Aya is a girl of small stature with a big personality. Her smiles are contagious. Aya does not look her age. She could easily be passed off for a 15-year-old. Her hobbies include singing and taking long baths. Aya loves to watch television series’, movies, and listen to songs in her leisure time.

She is taking classes in Religion, International Studies and History. Aya has always been interested in religion and learning the differences in them. For instance, after coming here she has learnt from her Indian roommate that she cannot eat beef and from me, she has learnt that I do not eat pork or any meat that is not Halal. Aya expected much from the class but it hasn’t lived up to her expectations. In International Studies, she would like to learn more about the US but also about other countries to gain international knowledge and exposure. She has been able to gain a lot of insight into these topics through this class and finds it very useful. Aya’s motive behind taking the History class is that she didn’t want to wake up early in the mornings. But she also took up this course as it was something that wasn’t offered in her home
