The essay of Why Colleges Shower Their Students with A’s by Brent Staples clearly mimics a problem solution essay that is very heavily focused on the problem. Staples takes a very assertive standpoint in insisting that over inflation of grades due to particular pressure on adjunct professors are devaluing degrees from collegiate institutions. Staples is convincing in this assertion as he uses generalized facts, “In some cases, campus wide averages have crept up from a C just 10 years ago, to a B-plus today.” This alarming quotation is used as evidence that supports Staples’ claim of a major problem facing collegiate institutions nationwide. The solution that Staples proposes, is a new grade point average formula.

Colleges have started to change the whole grading system over the years just to make it look like the students are doing better. Today we learned about lesson planning. I have written many lesson plans in undergraduate at Sweet Briar College, but Randolph College has a different format so I needed help. A group of students who were familiar with the format taught the rest of the class about lesson planning. We were also able to ask them questions which was very helpful. I made the decision that I would still need two lesson plans.

It was about March or April 2015. I was a 5th grader at James Valley Christian. Our teacher was in the process of announcing who will receive the Oscar Award. Academic Integrity is taken very serious in college, therefore, cheating in colleges should be discussed. The definition of academic integrity is, “ holding oneself to the highest ethical standard in all academic pursuits – doing all individual work alone, relying on one’s own knowledge during assessments, engaging truthfully with others, following all university policies and procedures, and encouraging this behavior in fellow students”(Handbook). There are several different types of cheating, these range from performance concerns, unfair professors, to external pressures, etc. (Reasons).
Over the last 20 years, many schools have shifted away from fairly unregulated student dress codes to more stringent dress codes, with some schools implementing voluntary or mandatory school uniforms. There are several positions on the dress code issue, each of which have their own persuasive arguments to support them, which can be evaluated to examine their validity. One position in favor of implementing dress codes is that these standards can improve student safety and perhaps even student performance at school. There are variations on this position that favor strict standards on what students can wear, while others want to implement school uniforms in public schools. The opposing view is that students should not be subject to any dress codes on the grounds that they restrict students' freedom of expression, and that they may place unfair cost burdens on poor families.
