Claude Monet (also known as Oscar-Claude Monet or Claude Oscar Monet) is considered an inspiration to all new and old artists throughout the world. He painted or drew around 2,500 pieces of Impressionism art. He had a plethora of talent which helped him to contribute a few things not only to artists but to anyone who sees his works.
Claude Monet was born November 14,1840, on the 5th floor of 45 Laffitte Street in the 9th arrondissement of Paris. His parents were Claude-Adolphe and Louise-Justine Aubrée Monet, he was their second son. In 1845, his family moved to Le Havre, Normandy. When he was 16 he left school and lived with his aunt, Marie-Jeanne Lecarde. He joined the First Regiment of African Light Cavalry in Algeria during June of 1861.

He first became known for his charcoal caricatures. He took his first drawing lessons from Jacques-François Ochard. In Normandy he met Eugène Boudin who taught him oil paints and “en plein air”. While others tried to copy works from famous artists Monet would paint what he saw outside. While Monet was in Paris he made a few friends who were painters and were also impressionists. His painting “The Woman in the Green Dress (La Femme à la Robe Verte)” which he painted in 1866, brought him recognition. Throughout 1871 to 1878 Monet lived in Artenteuil where he painted on his boat. He examined the scene in front of him which he tried to reciprocate onto his canvas. That was where Monet painted some of his best works. In 1872 or 1873 Monet painted “Impression, Sunrise (Impression: soleil levant)”. Impression, Sunrise was hung in the first impressionist exhibit. The piece now hangs in Musée Mormottan. His paintings are now sold for millions of dollars. $20.1 million was the price of his painting “London, the Parliament, Effects of Sun in the Fog (Londres, le Parlement, trouée de soleil dans le brouillard)”, in 2004. “Le Pont du chemin de fer à Argenteuil” was bought by an unknown telephone bidder for $41.4 million in New York at Christie 's auction in 2008 which broke the previous record price of one of his painting’s which was $36.5 million. Monet’s “Le bassin aux nymphéas (part of the Water Lilies series)” sold for £36,500,000 ($71,892,376.34), which was the hammer price.
